I'm just coming up to 14 weeks and it feels like AGES since I heard the baby's heat beat during the scan. Does anyone know if you usually are able to hear it when you have the 16 week check up with the midwife at the doc's? do they normally have the equipment?

Hey hun. As far as I know they'll have a doppler to allow you to listen to the hb at your appointment.

You can always get one for at home from Amazon - think about £20 but a really good little purchase as you can listen any time you need a reassurance :) xx

Hi Loosey,
I had my 16 wk check today and yes, got to hear the HB. Brilliant!!

Yup they listened to mine at 16 week....I also listen now and hen on my Doppler!x

Yep they're more than likely to listen at 16wks. I bought a home doppler for £18 which has been so reassuring inbetween appts! x

i got listened to at my 16 week appointment x

they did listen yep at my 16 weeks appot

I got to hear mine at the 16 weeks appointment but some MW don't like to do it so just so you know :)

My MW only done it because I said I found the HB myself at home, she explained she does it later when baby is bigger as at 16 weeks they can hide which then makes mum worry if they don't hear it. Good luck at your appointment!! xx

My midwife doesn't listen for the heartbeat at 16 weeks as she said if they can't find it, it causes unessecary worry. Mine started to listen from 22 weeks. I have a Doppler too and it's very reassuring, I heard the heartbeat from around 10 weeks. Xx

The policy in our area is not to try at 16weeks, cos it can still be hard to find, and it makes mums panic it mw can't find it. So it varies from place to place. I had to wait till 24week. Xxx

My MW told me to bring my son along to my 16wk appointment as we will listen to the heartbeat.

Though I do remember when pregnant with AJ, same surgery, different MW that she wouldnt try!? x

Thanks for the answers, i guess i would panic if mw couldn't hear anything! I'll have to see how it goes. I wasn't sure about getting a doppler, i think i will if mw says no at 16 weeks!

Doctor listened to my LO's at 18 weeks (it would have been earlier only I didnt realise I had to make an appointment with my doctor until then!!). Over here I think its a bit different, I have shared antenatal care with hospital and my GP surgery.

xx
