Has anyone had to have a rig cut off due to swelling? My fingers swelled quite a lot on holiday, I managed to get 3 off but my wedding ring which was slightly smaller than the others is well and truly stuck! I've tried all sorts from soap and oil to wrapping a thread round the finger and loping through the ring. It gets to the knuckle and cant go past without my finger going purple and it hurting. I think it's time to consider having it cut off which I assume is a trip to A&E ☹️

Oh no! Mine are getting tight too. If your fingers are cold they shrink, could you somehow cool down your fingers? Alternatively the metal will slightly expand if it gets warmer, so maybe play with adjusting temperature (with an ice pack or a hot shower maybe) see if that helps. It will be such a shame if you have to get it cut off. I think a&e have a few tricks up their sleeves like what you have tried before they go ahead and cut the ring. Hope it comes off soon!

I would advise taking them off sooner rather than later! I should have realised the hot weather wouldn't help ☹️
I've tried cold water and ice. It reduces some of the swelling but not enough.

Yes mine are off, i usually only put them on to leave the house but maybe not reading your post. My OH suggested putting them on a necklace which l thought was a good idea.

That's what I'm going to do now lol. I'll try to get it off once more and if not I'll get it cut off

I know you've tried oil but have you tried butter or moisturiser? They're meant to make the skin softer or something. Also, don't pull it over the knuckle but wiggle and turn it so it moves up millimetre by millimetre. If no joy, take it to a jewellers as they may have the tools to remove it without causing too much damage

Hey, I'm a trained jeweller (although haven't practiced for years) I don't have any tricks up my sleeve other than you've tried, i have seen the method you tried with the string wrapped round with a thin metal wire as an alternative which might work but I imagine could be quite sore. I would definitely go to a good local jeweller (an actual jeweller rather than a high street chain though) and they would be able to cut it off much better than A&E would as they would know where to cut to cause minimal difficulty in having it put back together afterwards. I had to cut one off my brother once as all else failed x

Thanks Rose. I will see what jewellers are about in my area and give them a call. I'd like to avoid A&E for something that's not an emergency.
