Have you had your thyroid checked?

Hi girls,
I found out yesterday that one of the first tests I should have had was to get my thyroid checked as if it’s off balance or something it can affect implantation.
This info came from the fertility doctor at the clinic where we went to discuss IVF.
I’m pretty peed off that after an early miscarriage a year ago, paying privately for AMH and Hydrocosy that we’re just being told this now.
It’s a minefield and so bloomin stressful trying to figure out what to do.

Did you get your thyroid tested? I’m going this morning for the blood test. Aparantly they give you medication to balance it if it’s off.

X

I have to have mine checked yearly as I had a lump and half my thyroid removed a few years ago, which turned out to be because I have thyroid auto immune disease. My levels are still ok, if that changes, it’s as simple as taking tablets to resolve the issue. It is very important for pregnancy that your levels are normal. X

Hi Bambi42,
my GP sent me for all sorts of blood tests before she was able to refer me to a fertility clinic. My TSH came back really low and I was referred to see an endocrinologist. Now 6 months later I'm about to go and see my endocrinologist again for a final follow up appointment. After my 1st abnormal blood test at GP's all the other blood tests have been 'normal' and so have been all the thyroid scans. Not sure why I had this one off result with my bloods. I still feel there is something wrong with my hormones but if blood tests don't show anything there is nothing I can do..

It's good to have your thyroid tested, if all is normal, it shouldn't delay your IVF process. If they find something then it can add a few months or so for you to go and see a specialist with further tests.

We are also planning to discuss IVF on our next follow up appointment in fertility clinic :)

I had my thyroid checked amongst other things when I first went to the GP to start the ball rolling. I thought that would have been standard.

Yup, after 6 months TTC my gyni tested my thyroid which turned out to be normal. It was one of the first tests they did.

Thanks Sweets. That's good to know. I'm pretty sure my hormones are out of whack but since the first test back in January my GP has refused to do any more tests. I get the results of the Thyroid on Friday. Because I'm 42 we are not entitled to any help on the NHS so it's private fertility clinic.
I'll keep in touch with you if we end up going down the IVF route. I'm planning to get Christmas out the way but really in my heart I hope that if there is an issue with my thyroid that the medication would then enable us to get pregnant naturally. That may be pie in the sky thinking but its still in my head/heart.

Good luck to you and thanks for answering x
