Have you had your thyroid checked?

Hi ladies.

The board all got a bit much for me as TTC was really getting me down (I know you all know how that feels)

But wanted to come back and say that I'm convince it was my thyroid stopping me from conceiving.

My Dr did a blood test and everything was normal except my Thyroid which was under active.

Month and a half of tablets later - bfp.

I just wish I'd gone earlier when my Mum said "you sound like you need your thyroid checked" as I was so tired all the time.

Definitely go get it checked if you do have hypothyroid in the family or are feeling run down or getting ill a lot.

Cheers for that cupcake, I have under active thyroid (17 years)....even if you do have it checked and they say it's within normal range ask for your levels (don't be afraid) mine were within normal range but I still felt tired and I was at the high end of normal (high levels under and low levels over) and had my mess adjusted by 25 mg felt loads better x

I have been thinking this for aaaaages. My dad has suffered both hypo and hyper thyroidysm and since I stopped the pill I have been so tired all the time and have put on over a stone since. I keep thinking about it but don't feel like I can just ask for a thyroid test as I don't feel doctors take me seriously. Also as far as i can remember i think i had a thyroid test a while back when I went about something else. It came out normal but wondered if the pill may mask it. I also have been having weird throat problems but no idea if that is anything to do with thyroid.

My TSH was 6.2 2 months ago. Now down to 3.7 so much better, still higher than I'd like but I was worried this werk's blood test would say it was scary high as too high can have a bad effect on baby.

Had a blood test this week and have had my dosage upped and been referred to a specialist endocrinologist to keep an eye on it now.

TimTam that sounds loads like thyroid.

They can't turn you down for a test, just go and say its in your family (it's in mine so they were keen to test)

It's an easy problem to fix and I'm already feeling a bit less tired.

Thanks Cupcake, I'm planning to go back to docs in a month or 2 when we've been trying for just over a year so I'll bring it up with them then.

I had my thyroid checked a few years back and it was normal. They did it as part of my day 3 bloods and I had antibodies and slightly high thyroid (5.6) and was told borderline hypo. Started on 50 mg which I'm convinced made me feel dizzy and hot so reduced to 25 and I've been fine. Just has it retested this week after 6 weeks and it's now 2.44. Yay

I never had any symptoms though which is weird. I've asked to be referred to an endocrinologist as I've googled and read for fertility tsh is best between 1 and 2. Docs think anything up to 5 is normal so wont work to get me in that range. Docs are so general they don't know how thyroid can affect fertility.

On clomid too this month and still no bfp for me and still spotting boooo x

Ideal TSH is around 2 I think

Normal range changes depending who you ask. Normally 0.5-3 or something like that. Sometimes they say 5 is ok and some people only feel well if their TSH is under 1. It's quite individual.

TSH is Thyroid Stimulating Hormone. So if you have an under active gland your TSH level is higher as your body produces more TSH to try and compensate for what you don't have. So I couldn't conceive with mine at 6. But apparently 3.7 is ok for me.

I've just dug out my blood results from when i first went to my gp for help with ttc.
The TSH line has 0.2 - 4.5 mU/L in the range section and my result is 1.2 so this would be closer to an overactive thyroid? Obviously my number is in the normal range but over the years my results have also been a 1.0 and a 0.85 Do you think its worth speakign to my GP?

hiya, i have a under-active thyroid and have done for the last 7 years. through the 7 years i went from taking 25mg levo-thyroxine to 125mg to present. under-active thyroid has been in my family for years but my nan has got it, skipped my mother and i got it. normally is its under 2.0 then its complicated. it has to be under 2.0 by a certain ammount for them to put you on medication and its TSH they test you for.

ive recently found out im pregnant again and with hormones going all over the place i can gaurentee my medication will go up again.

I read between 1 and 2 is ideal to conceive. It's good to see ladies with thyroid issues getting their bfps

Hiya, I'm do glad this subject has come up as I'm having a nightmare at the minute. I have so many symptoms of thyroid problems as well as 3 members of my close family who are diagnosed (my mum, aunt and cousin). My situation is that my tsh test has come back normal (2.18). My question is this... I've heard that for accurate results I should have had t3, t4, ft3 and ft4 tested and that tsh results can mask other problems alone. Does anyone know about this or had experience of a normal tsh test but abnormal results with t3 etc? My cousins doc automatically requested the additional tests but my doc says no need!! I'm contemplating going private... Does anyone know anything about this?? Xx
