Guthrie Test (Heel Prick) Fail :-((

hey girls,

My midwife called today to ask if they could come back to see our little boy as they needed to do a repeat blood test for the Guthrie test.

He had a raised count for his thyroid result - 10.94 and there's a risk of congenital hyperthyroidism .

Has anyone else had to have the test repeated? I'm so sad x

No experience hun and hopefully the second test is more conclusive?

I wouldn't Google as you will probably find a load of horror stories BUT it may be worth looking on the nhs website for some balanced info?

Of course you wil be worried but at this point nothing is definite so try not to be too sad.

My little girl had to have the heel test repeated as they said there were some things they were concerned about, got the results in the post a week later and all was fine. My midwife said that sometimes they just like to double check things, I'm sure it will be ok huni. I know its a worry though, I kept thinking that something was wrong with her until I got the results back xx

I'm trying not to google but it's hard, what's even worse is that there's no info on Google about it!!

First time mum did they say what they were concerned about? Ours is the thyroid result. X

I think it was the thyroid as well but I cant remember what number it was, sorry hun xx
