Blood test ??

Hi all,

I've just joined the second triemester. Just wanted to ask a question.....i had my 12 week scan last week, i then did another blood test to access the risk for downs syndrome.....does anybody know what they are testing for and what they can tell by the results.

Is this a normal test or do they think we are at more risk following the scan? I am due to collect my results tomorrow, but just wanted someone to shed some light, as we are living in Spain at the moment and wanted to know if this is the normal thing that happens in the UK.
