Took Oz to get weighed yesterday and the HV was talking to another BFing mum who was talking about the weaning she was doing and the HV said they are changing guidelines again...

BF babies are going to be recommended to start weaning earlier than 6 months. She didn't say how much earlier, but not to wait 6 months anymore. Too late for Oscar anyways, we started properly at 5 months and he was ready.

Don't get why they can't just tell people to follow babies lead and that maximum to wait is 6 months before baby needs more than milk alone.

They just keep adding to the confusion!

agreed, i started at 4 1/2 months as Isla was grabbing stuff of me!!

G is bf and wasnt interested in food until very close to 6 months, I offered him food every few days from 5 and a bit months but he wasnt interested at all. One of my friend's first baby was bottle fed but not interested in food at all until almost 8 months! Every baby is different why cant they just give a minimum age and then say to follow what your baby wants.

i'm just going to follow Flynn's lead! i worked for a lady when i was 15, babysitting her 18 month old and 2 month old, the 18 month old refused to eat any lumpy food and the 2 month old was on 8oz of milk AND a bowl of LUMPY baby porridge! i presume now she had her HV backing but he was such a big boy! and he's grown up to be very healthy and quite skinny but very tall for his age! all babies are defiantly different and require different things at different times!

I totally agree. I think it is actually totally ridiculous that they are considering changing things. IMO I reckon they should say what youve said here, every baby is different , go with a minimum age and let the baby lead. Our experience was that BLW was totally amazing, we waited til 6 months, he was bf til then and then refused for the bottle. I wouldnt do it anyother way and with no 2 hopefully we'll BLW again unless it doesn't suit baby. I have the confidence now to take what HV with a pinch of salt say but didn't to start.

Yeah I agree with everything you ladies have said! Give an absolute minimum age to start which we got told was 4 months (as an ABSOLUTE minimum) but to go with what J wanted and by about 5.5 month he was ready and after our food etc! X

christ almight when will they make their minds up....Im purely baby led in this matter, what is good for one is not necessarily good for the other xxx

I wish I had listened to what Chloe wanted rather than the health visitors.

I cant understand it either... Evolution makes this decision for us, when a baby can hold its head up, grab a bit of banana or whatever and put it in its mouth and eat it... its ready for food!!

How utterly simple is that? They are all different but the best person to listen to... IS THE BABY!!!

Those guidelines are just a big fat stinking load of BS that seem to cause more worry and stress than anything
