My boy is nearly 8 months. I understand around the 9month plus mark he'll be going into a group 1 car seat.

ive seen loads of lovely ones!.. But just looking for some recommendations? Im not looking at spending over the £150 mark.

I know the maxi cosi axis is supposed to be great, but wont be able to afford that. so any others. thanks=) Oh and is there a minimum weight?

You're safest keeping him in his infant carrier for as long as possible as it is the safest seat. When you go up a car seat you take a step down in safety.

He's safe in his stage 0 seat until his head reaches the top of it.

There's a Facebook group called "car seat advice for mummies and daddies" that is full of good advice on car seats. Have you considered extended rear facing at all as this is the safest for him.

The joie stages is a good seat and rear faces for longer and lasts untill age 7. It's what I was buying untill I was shown the axkid minikid but at £295 a big jump. Having a selling fest of all ollies baby bits to afford it but it does only last untill 4 when I would probably then buy the joie stages haha xxx

Axkid minikid will be out next seat! Not sure which one u meant lilmiss but the minikid rear faces until 25kg which is approx 6yrs. Xx

I should have said that my LO will be in his infant carrier until either his head goes over the top or he reaches 13kg, I suspect height will come first for him. 13kg is somewhere around 18months I believe altho a lot if babies last up to 20months according to alot of posts on the Facebook page mentioned above. I defo recommend joining it.

Definitely have a look at ERF.

I third joining that Facebook group, excellent advice all round.

I've seen so many my head hurts lol must have got confused. Oliver is so long it won't last him that long lol xxx

Also intend to buy the Axkid Minikid ERF seat and another vote for the facebook page mentioned above. Extended rear facing is definitely the safest option.

We had a budget of 150ish too and went for the joie stages for 130 in halfords.

It rear faces up until approx 4 years and forward face until 7 years. We find it a good seat.

Harper outgrew her infant seat height wise a few weeks ago, at about 13.5 months. Defo best keeping him in his first seat for as long as possible x

Fourth the fb group - they're really helpful!

I was all for moving austin to a ff car seat as soon as he hit 9 months then I read the whole rf thing. He's definitely gonna be rf now! He's still in his infant seat at almost 12 months & hasn't reached height or weight limit. As mellie said the infant seat is by far the safest

Oliver has about 2 inches left above his head at just 5 & 1/2 months lol. Very tall boy xxx

Have you taken out any newborn inserts and wedges your seat has? And also is his crotch pulled right down to the buckle between his legs? That might give you a few extra cm's

Thanks everyone. Yep all inserts taken out, It a simple maxi cosi seat. He's pretty tall though and almost reaching the top now. I'd say we've got till the next growth spurt definitely around the 9 month mark we'll have to change.

I will look up a few mentioned =) Joie was one I considered. Will look up facebook page too!

Any one try any cossato seats? xx

The fb group experts do not rate cosatto at all. Apparently tested to min standards & all you're paying for is the funky pattern

What centile is he on for height? I swore I thought austin would have outgrown his by xmas in height (10minths) & he's barely grown since

Their growth slows right down doesn't it, at like ten months. X

I didn't believe that people managed to keep them in their until 18-24 months but totally see they can now!

Our daughter was still in her group 0 seat at 21 months when her brother came along. We got her a new seat at that point, but probably wouldn't have otherwise.

I'd never heard if axkid before....don't the child's legs get squashed if they're still rear facing when a bit older ?

Nope, children just naturally bend / fold / cross their legs - they're much more flexible than we are as adults :) If you do a google images search for 'rear facing children' you'll find lots of pictures of children (including school age ones) in ERF seats, which explains it better than I can explain it in words

The amount of space depends on the type of seat and the car it's fitted in, we have an Axkid seat in a Renault Scenic and there's plenty of space :)
