Morning Girlies, I had an appointment with my consultant yesterday. Turns out I have a grade 3 placenta which means the placenta is maturing a wee bit faster than he would like. When he checked he was happy that the baby was still getting enough oxygen and nutrients and is a healthy weight.

I have to go back next week when he will check to see if my cervix is favourable (as I will be just over 37wks), if it is I will be induced. He will also check to see if the placenta has matured further, if it has I will not be allowed to go full term as he put it.

So I am looking at either being induced or a c-section. (I read up on it last night and think its safe to say that I will not be allowed to go full term).

I feel a wee bit like I have lost control, my worst nightmare would be that he induces me but I still end up having to have a section..... And now I have to wait a whole week to find out what my fate is to be.......

Wow - I bet that was a bit of a shock for you!

I know you may feel like you've lost control of the situation but at least you will have a week to get your head around things. Imagine if they said they were going to deliver bubs there and then

You are classed as full term so don't worry about delivering early or anything - baby will have everything it needs from you now! :)

Can they sweep you first if cervix is favourable? Or do they want to do the drip straight away? If they go for the drip, you can request epidural straight away if you're concerned about the pain. However, you could just see how you go before making that decision.

Either way, I'm sure you'll be grand! Look on the bright side...you won't have to go overdue! :)

I've tried to consider all the options, if my cervix is favourable AND the placenta has matured I'm not sure if the outcome will be a sweep/ induction or if that would warrant a section. I think I am more afraid of not knowing what is going to happen rather than the pain bit at min. I aim to just accept whatever I am told has to happen - its out of my hands now so there's no point fighting it!

But yes, not going overdue is definately a bonus! x

Not really what you wanted to hear! I understand what you mean about the unknown, its kinda the same for me, I've got to go back on friday for a scan to see whether little man has grown, if they are not happy with his growth then I got told I will be induced, so I don't know what to expect really either!

I hope everything turns out ok, what day do you have to go back? Xx

Ooohhh not long to go then - bonus. Try not to worry about the labour pain. Most hospitals offer epidural (except mine!!!). They will know whats best for you - if you end up with a section, then so be it! Its funny, I was so against having a section first time that when my labour was not going to plan and they started to prepare me for section, my body went into shock, I was shaking like a leaf and got an infection. Whatever happened made me dilate fully and gave birth naturally in the end. This time around I could not care less how baby comes out - as long as its not too long a process like last time (36 hrs)... It can happen to any of us, induced early or section so try not to worry, be prepared for both xx

Hi hun, I had this when I was pregnant with my son along with low amniotic fluid, its frightening when you hear it  all I can say is that its good that they have caught it and will be keeping an eye on you, I was due for induction on my due date because of it but started slow labour at 38 weeks and had him at 39. There's still a chance you can get the birth you want, and if it helps I had no problems during labour, Odhran had an infection but that was because my waters had been leaking for quite some time.. If you are anxious don't be afraid to go down to be seen, good luck x

Kellyh I am due to go back next Thur - am going to try and put it to the back of my mind til then. Like you say we are in the same boat, hope you get good news at your next appointment x
