Just wondering how many of you had done gardening while pregnant?

We've just got a garden and needs a lot done to it, I'm happy to get stuck in but have read about toxoplasmosis which can cause very bad side effects. Not sure if I'm being a bit too hesitant or if I should just get started. Have any of you guys been gardening or would you not? thanks.

ps. I'm only in 8 weeks.

If your going to make sure you use gloves and wash your hands very well afterwards...and as long as you don't put your fingers in your mouth either you should be fine i think but i am no doctor xxx

Hey hun

There is no reason why you should not do a bit of light gardening! Just don't go shifting a ton of soil or anything lol We have been out in the garden getting the veg patch ready over the past few weekends and I was emptying all the old soil out of the pots from last year, picking up the leaves and weeding etc Have even done some planting of seeds already too!

As Shauna said always make sure you wear gardening gloves! Good quality heavy gloves so that thorns etc can't poke thru them and wash your hand well with anti bacterial soap.

xx

I gardened the whole way through - including moving a tonne of top soil when I was about 16 weeks. I just wore gloves and made sure I washed my hands after.

I am told my mum was hoeing the garden the day before I was born :)

I'd just be careful about keeping your hands clean (normal gardening gloves should be fine) and avoiding anything that looks like cat/dog mess.

as others have said as long as you are sensible and dont start eating the soil you will be fine :)

I am looking forward to the weather picking up so I can get in the garden again and give it a bit of a spruce up, its looking a bit sad after winter and needs some attention

Yup as the others say avoid contact with your mouth until you have washed your hand but go for it , I was sent out gardening by my MW to get labour started :)

as the rest have said really, though my dad did advise me to wear a cloth/face mask (one like a dr would wear) if thinking of moving a lot of soil, hes a landscape gardner so he knows a lot about it all!!! he said its mainly as you can accidently get soil airborn and then in your eye or mouth ect! so just a precortion! i need to get out in my garden, but the weathers not great here :(

i was gardening when pregnant, and i also have a cat who uses a litter tray... gloves, washing hands and alcohol gel is what i used/did xxxx

I moved 8 skip bags of top soil before I found out I was preg! :s
Ive been doing my beddng plants etc now with gloves on but the only thing I wont do is pick up dog/cat poo xxx
