Not sure if this has already been mentioned on here as I haven't been a member for long, but does anybody use Freecycle?

http://www.freecycle.org/

Freecycle is giving things away, or taking other peoples goodies and the main point of it is that it's free. So if you have loads of stuff you never get round to taking to the charity shop, then you could offer it on Freecycle and somebody may want it!

I put up a bag of cassettes from before I started buying CD's, and an old lady came and collected them and she does charity car boot sales which I thought was well worth giving them to her for free to get them out of my way!

This morning I picked up a pushchair as a lady is moving house and bought her little boy a new one. It just needs a wipeover and then it'll be fine to use and even if it doesn't last long or whatever, it's free!, so any use I can get out of it is better than none! Even if I buy another one, I can put it back on Freecycle for someone else to make use of, as it's a perfectly good pushchair!

There's a lot of childrens stuff that comes up in my area, so thought would pass the message round, for people to recycle things that are too good to throw away, or for those like myself who can't always afford to buy new things all the time.

I have heard asbout this before but have also heard stories of people saying things were good con and going to pick them up and the things been disgusting, now i know you cant complain about it been free, but then you are in a position where you feel bad if you say no way im not having that, or you take it, then you have to waste petrol taking it to the local tip lol

True, maybe it depends on the area? People seem ok on my one, just thought it might be helpful to some people on here x

I'm from Reading as well, and it's always been great for me. We did get a really strong nesting instinct though, and bought some of the stuff that we'd got for free, but our local Sure Start were pleased to have it, so it was a win-win situation.

i gave away some of finlay's clothes he'd grown out of on freecycle, had a really good response and they got collected today

I have never used freecycle in reading the things I have heard are from my friend not in reading .

Fair enough - I guess it's always only going to be as good as the people you get offering stuff.

In the past 2 days we have given away a lilac futon bunk bed (1 year used, 6 months stored) a solid pine bathroom cabinet (used for 4 months), a gazelle cross trainer and airtrac treadmill - All of which are in excellent condition. Our garage space was worth more to us.

I offered the bunks to several charities as they were MINT, the kind with a single at the top and double at the bottom which folds into a couch. ALL the charities "didnt have room" or wanted us to deliver (i.e. Couldnt be bothered picking up)

Its gone to a family with 2 girls, bathroom cabinet and treadmill to a lady who's just had her 3rd baby and cant get out much obviously and cross trainer to funnily enough DD's boyfriends mum!

I personally would be mortified if I gave away crap, the stuff was way too good for the tip and I cant be bothered with the hassle of selling and charities as much as they plead actually didnt want to know (their loss) so found this site perfect!

We now have garage space and can sort LO's room out :cheer:

I use freecycle and I have had loads of great stuff!

I got "rid" of a dressing table" and in return I got a wardrobe for the baby room.

Also I have had a bin bag full of designer baby clothes and my fried has had a travel system.

There does appear to be alot of stuff advertised which to me sounds like rubbish but they do say one mans rubbish is anothers treasure...

We are planning on clearing out our gargage in a few weeks and I will advertise anything worth having on the freecycle site... that way we get rid of our unwanted stuff and don't have to hire a van to take things to the tip!!

I've given away a toaster, kettle, juicer, curtains, fondue set and loads of baby bits (clothes, breastfeeding equipment, nappies).

I've gained loads of flowerpots and planters for my new veg patch, a stereo and 36 Enid Blyton books. The books were in response to a wanted ad. I advertised that I wanted some of these to read to Stanley and all the books came from one guy

always had trouble trying to join this group. i have tried again.

when we move we will be definatly giving away alot esp spare parts in the garage, in fact any one, or anyones oh on here got a 205 gti, cause we have a load of spare 8v parts from my stolen 205....also a brand new head gasket that im just gonnaget rid of...?

Yes, I got our fake Xmas tree from freecycle and am about to give our babywalker away on it as it's so huge it won't fit through our loft hatch! It was secondhand anyway but it will be fine for another few babies I would have thought. I love looking at what people are asking for/giving away. In Bristol there's lots of baby stuff all of the time.

Groups are run locally though so it depends on your mod.

Try again and make sure you check your junk mail folder if you have one (mine was spammed)
