Has anyone had food poisoning during their pregnancy? I woke at midnight and let’s just say I was in the loo with our bin on my lap. I’ve been like this on and off since and I’m scared about the baby as we’ve only just had our 12 week scan. Should I call the doctors when they open or ride it out and hope for the best? I feel so angry with myself!

Sorry you’re not well. I think the biggest risk is dehydration so if you’re not able to keep anything down, even water, you might need to be seen by someone. Listeria is a type of food poisoning that can be potentially harmful to the baby itself, which is mainly caught through eating unpasteurised products, mould ripened cheeses, pate etc. If you didn’t eat anything like that then like I say I think it’s just making sure you don’t become too dehydrated. Maybe give 111 a call for some advice, they’re usually helpful. Hope you feel better soon xx

Aww hun, don't be angry with yourself - you can't help catching a tummy bug.

Sounds horrid - hope its just a quick 24 hour one and you're back on top form soon.

I agree, give 111 a call, especially if you're struggling to keep water down or f you have a fever. Your immune system will do its job to protect you and baby, but keeping hydrated and not overheating are key, so may be that you need some help with that (maybe iv fluids at hospital).

Keep us posted

Xxx

Thanks ladies. I have managed to keep water down by sipping it, but feel like I need to stay near the bathroom. My OH woke when he heard me crying and calmed me down, he will get me to the doctor if I can’t hold the water down and has asked me to rest for now so trying not to worry too much. Just not a nice feeling when I’ve had the best two days since my scan, don’t want to go back to being concerned about the baby. Sod’s law I got sick straight after it x

It can help to have a tiny bit of salt and sugar in the water to keep your electrolytes up - not much. Otherwise the water can go straight through you.
