Hi I am new to this forum..I am 16 weeks pregnant and I am due a flu vaccine but I am kind of worried about getting it... has anyone any opinions and advice on this vaccination?

Anna x

flu is an awful thing to catch when not pregnant and can make a pregnant woman very poorly. it's very low risk

I had mine in both pregnancies. Flu can make you very very ill x

I had mine really early on I think I was about 6/7 weeks (i'm 19 weeks now) and had no issues! I would really recommend getting it as like the ladies said before, you realllllly don't wanna get Flu whilst pregnant as you hold onto illnesses longer when you're pregnant and you can't take many tablets for it!

Plus...it's free haha! Take advantage of anything the NHS will give you for free!

It's the whooping cough one that hurt my arm for like a week haha! But didn't cause me any other issues! :) x

You need to weigh up the pros and the cons for yourself. Is there any reasons that you do not want it?
I work in the nhs and human entitled to it for free every year however I do not for reasons of my own. Are you susceptible to getting colds rtf during the winter months?

I took mine as I suffered really badly with colds in my first trimester. Touch wood, since then, despite nearly everyone around me coming down with something, I've been blissfully germ free. The sore arm for 24hours was worth it in my case :)

I was worried and went to get it around 8 weeks but chickened out, eventually got it at 19 weeks. Husband got his in October as he had flu last year, he was quite firm on saying that if I ended up with flu after NOT getting it and something bad happened he would struggle to deal with it and I did agree. I’ve not been unwell at all since getting the jab and I’m wondering why I held off in the first place! I also work as a teacher so I’m constantly around germs and kids with colds and flu symptoms so glad I got t.

I work in the nhs also and so also get it for free every year, and so far I’ve never had flu. I can’t umagine how awful flu would be pregnant knowing how miserable a cold makes me.

It’s perfectky safe but you need to decide if it’s right for you x

I got mine with both my pregnancies. I'm also 16 weeks now. I have it every year with asthma plus working in care. Pregnancy makes you classed as vulnerable and more likely to get complications from flu. Like pneumonia etc. For me I'd always have it. You can't get flu from the flu jab and side affects are rare and mild. Like cold symptoms. Your immune system is low being pregnant anyway

I understand how someone who has never had it would be worried but from my experience people who scare others don't really know exactly how it works imo. I've never had any side affects since I was 15. My 4 year old even had it this year since flu has been so bad and she was fine too. Hope that helps hun but it's up to you. Xx

I had my flu jab and have been fine, hubby has had flu for nearly 3 weeks and I’m fine. I’m glad I had it x

Thank you for all your replies I am glad I found this forum. I have been eorried because my friend had said to me I don't need it she never got it through two pregnancies and my sister never got it with her two because she was afraid. I have a really bad immune system and usually always get the cold.. luckily enough I haven't had it since I found out I am pregnant. I think it might just be safer to get the flu jab now I have heard some advice!xx
