I have my own hens, did have 6 but 1 died 3 weeks ago.
3 of them are ex commercial layers so they "would" have been lion stamped eggs but now they live with me so obv I don't stamp their eggs
The other 2 are Brahmas from a private small scale breeder so not 'lion mark' (as they probably weren't vaccinated, only large flocks and commercial hens tend to be vaccinated), but I still trust the eggs and haven't had any issues.
I even lick out the bowls after baking cakes with my hens' (raw) eggs! lol.
Tonight I had a baked sweet potato, carrots, broccoli, peas, linda mccartney sausage, and gravy.
Then afterwards had lots of vegan (dairy free) orange chocolate and some home made banana loaf lol.
Oh hensss!! Id love hens. They look so soft but close enough theyd peck your eyes out
Yeah I was a bit ott first time round, But towards the end I let go and since reading about the lion I dont mind but prior to pregnancy a fried egg for me was literally 2mins in the pan and a splash of oil on top so I do take more care to make sure I cook them. But thats also cause no one loves an undercooked fried egg. All slimey. I must admit Ive never or heard anyone get ill from having a runny yolk. Not saying it hasnt or wont but its rare? Or to me atleast. Eggs have never made me sick.
Well Ive done my dinner, yes I did go a bit mad with the chips I "forgot" OH wasnt eating as hes ill. Im going to turn into a chip. I had a home chip sandwich earlier. I wonder why Im breaking out. Love all potato!!
Im gonna get a face steamer next week since Im not allowed in the sauna.
I'm getting 4 eggs a day most days at the moment and 2 or 3 eggs the other days (one of the brown ones has never layed.... freeloader haha!!! She's the one with the blue leg ring on the left of the first picture)
I'm craving chips as well at the moment, definitely having something with chips for tomorrows dinner.
Might have to get take out from the chip shop or somewhere if anywhere is open though
Oh wow!! I like the chunkier 2 of the group. They look fluffy. Do they let you pet them? Are they tame? They look like their having a rare time running care free. Are the eggs much better home grown or laid rather? I like free range thats about as much as I know. My butcher does lovely ones.
I like to think im craving the chips because I need the carb energy im sure ill tell myself that again if another spot appears.
Actually. I must must must remind myself to buy an actifry when I get paid. Forever changing oil for fresh chips.
Yes the big fluffy ones are the Brahmas, I love how big and fluffy they are
Yes they let me pet them and pick them up, but I spent all winter barely seeing them so they are slightly more 'flighty' (antisocial) at the moment lol.
They got really tame last summer though as I was in the garden with them a lot.
The main difference with home laid eggs are brighter yolks. Most people say they taste better fresh too, but it's so long since I've bought supermarket eggs I couldn't comment lol.
This shows the yolk colour.
One of the Brahmas laid a double yolker last summer, not had one since though.
Ahhh if I start thinking of hens Ill end up with loads of animals ive not long got rid of my 5 axolotls 3 cats still with us lol. I wanna build a hedgehog home and release some into the wild but waiting until jackson is a bit older.
I keep having this dream my mym phones and asks "are you pregnant?!" kind of demanding
I reveal to fam on Tuesday after the scan.
OH and I had a break last year and since I wasnt allowed a 3rd cat when he was here first thing I did when he left was buy a 3rd cat I sometimes joke ohh why dont we try for another furrbaby ie can I get a cat but even I know getting the 3rd pushed the boat a bit. I want to go to one of the cat cafes. They look awsome.
