Hey girls, hope everyone is feeling good.

Got my first midwife appointment today, so rather excited. First actually official pregnancy thing I've done!

Will be 8 weeks tomorrow.

Also, is anyone else slightly glad that xmas and new year is all done with now? I am! With the hundreds of parties, and everyone drinking and getting drunk, I didn't have quite the fun christmas I normally have. Did the new years party thing sober, and think that'll be it for me now, no fun staying up with drunk people who don't understand what you're talking about! :wall2:

Although seeing all my friends with their tired eyes and bad skin and extra 5lbs now starting their detoxs, feeling slightly smug I haven't had a hangover in a month, and wont be having one for hopefully another 12 months!

Any questions newbies have about first appointments, please ask, I'll hopefully be clued up in a couple of hours!

I am sooooo pleased the festive season is done with, soberness is boring when everyone is tanked. Hope you enjoy your appointment, it'll last about an hour xx

Good luck with your appointment, hope your midwife is lovely!

I know what you mean, I am glad its over! But you're right thanks to morning sickness, loss of apetite and no alcohol Ive actually lost a pound over the christmas season, my sisters on a diet now, and everyone in the staffroom too, mwah ha ha, smug! :)

Can you ask your midwife about underwire bras? I've heard mixed things and I meant to ask at my booking in but forgot, and Im interested inprofessional opinion!

Thanks :)

Hi good luck for your app. No what you mean about it all being over with, took me decorations down sat as couln't face work, school run and still having them still up! The only thing i did mind was having a hangover for the past 6 weeks and not having a drink! Oh well all be worth it in the end.

I hope it went well, got mine tomorrow, feeling very nervous!

Appointment was really good thanks, was worried Id have some old battleaxe midwife who was a miserable old trout, like some of my friends have had, but luckily she was lovely.
Asked tons of questions about health and my last pregnancy, and then had bloods taken, and then given my bounty pack, and my orange book, and some free vitamins.
Told the hospital will write to me with my 12 week dating scan, and booked my 16 week appointment to see the Midwife again.
The one thing I thought was just a little odd was that at no point has anyone done a pregnancy test. Firstly I went to my GP, before xmas, and they just gave me the number for the MW. Now i've seen her, and I'll just wait till my scan to see the baby.
My friend was joking she might just make the appointment to get the free vouchers in the bounty pack!!

glad it all went well for you. i've got my appointment to see my gp on thursday to get the ball rolling... just hope i get a nice midwife like you! what do you get in the bounty pack? xx

wow you got loads of free stuff! brilliant, Ive got nothing! boo!

Noone tested me either, I was thinking the other week, anyone could just make it up! (if they wanted to?!)

1st Congrats
and 2nd glad appointment went well
its a bit odd no1s tested
but wishing you all the best with ur pregnancy x

no-one's tested me either, they only have my word on it so far!

No one ever did a test on me, always just took my word for it.

I'm pleased your visit went well hun xx

I didn't have any today but I'm booked in for some next week, I jokingly said 'oh I'll be used to it soon' and the midwife sang cheerily 'blood, blood we're always after blood'....I gulped....stupid really, I'll sit under a tattooist's needle for quite happily but when it's in the hands of a nurse it scares the crap out of me lol

im not lookin forward to needles on my MW appt lolx

Just to give you some hope I didnt have any blood taken at my midwife appointment, just blood pressure taken and urine sample. Good luck!!

Hi hun, firstly congrats and secondly I'm glad the MW app went well.
Silly question but what do they do on the first visit? As I'm 9 weeks and 5 days and I'm putting off booking an appointment with her lol just so nervous and weren't sure when was the best time to contact them.
Do they only talk things over with you or look around your house too?
All the best x

Hiya. It seems quite variable what happens at booking in and where it takes place. I doubt anyone will look round your house. I think they just do home visits to improve attendance and so they dont have to use up a room at the surgery.

You'll have loads of questions about your medical history and family history of all sorts of things. My midwife talked me through signs of things to look out for. She took my blood pressure and got me to pee on a stick for her to check for ifnection and sugar in urine. She booked my scan there and then. She also talked me through the different screening test and got my consent for various things. Asked if we would prefer home birth or hospital.

Other people have had bloods taken and a pregnancy test and been given a pack of info about pregnancy.

Nothing to be nervous about hun, its not an inspection or anything :)
xx
