im getting myself in a tizz about weaning even tho im trying not to. LO seems to be doing ok, he has 3 meals a day now plus 28oz milk in 24 hours, is sleeping better too. i want to introduce finger foods to him, as after reading helens BLW thread i felt inspired lol but im also scared about choking etc etc!!! eeek. ive decided to stick to the TW as it suits us both fine, but i do want marley to get used to eating things by himself etc etc. what things are good starters for finger foods? as i say he has his 3 meals in the day so i was thinking of things like as a snack just to try during the day. i did try him with some avocado wedges, but i ended up eating them lol as they were too slippery and as soon as lo put them in his mouth he spat back out!! i know he will get there in his own time but i would like to offer him something every day, even if he doesnt actually eat if if you know what i mean!!! sorry for the whiney post! just after ideas!!

I give charley toast, bread, strawberries, banana, carrot sticks, carrot puffs, rice cakes, cucumber sticks, dairylea triangles, he has had abit of a tortilla and being naughty abit of cake!
It's hard seeing them gag but just keep an eye on him and he'll be fine x x

oh wow! so many things!! thanks for the ideas, i definately need to pluck up the courage & just let him go for it.... eeek. i'll try something tomorrow and let you know how we go on! he'll prob just throw it on the floor!! haha

Charley doesn't eat alot of it, it's all about learning the textures and different tastes ATM! I had a scare yesterday, I gave him a whole rice cake to nibble and wasn't looking, he started to gag and I thought it was just his normal gagging but realised he'd put the whole rice cake in his mouth! I had to get it out for him!!

omg!!!! bless him!!! well i deffo feel more inspired to give it a go now so thankyou!!!! =)

Don't worry about him eating anything, especially if he's having 3 meals as well, like LM said it's all about them learning textures, how to handle food, independance, good table manners, social interaction etc

We give;
Sticks of fruit
Sticks of cooked vegetables
Sticks of cucumber
Rice cakes
Dairylea cheese (hard)
Pitta bread slices (with hummus)
Pretty much anything he can grip in his fist that sticks out the top so he can chew that bit :)

Have fun!!! That's key :)
