My mam is REALLY big on feng sui (although she doesn't know THAT much about it lol), and she keeps making me paranoid about the fact that the bedroom I'm currently sleeping in (Alex's room) has my bed in a 'coffin' position with the feet pointing towards the door.
I don't know what I can do about that though. It's a really small room.

This is what it looks like:

This is what feng sui says in regards to bedrooms (the relevant stuff in this circumstance anyway):

Your bed should always have a solid wall behind you. This is important if you wish to have a good rest. A solid wall simply means that you can go into deeper sleep and therefore enabling you to have good rest so that when you wake up in the morning, you will feel fresh and well rested. This also allows you to be able to concentrate on your work better.
Position of Bed: When you are lying in bed, your feet should not directly face the door, since this is known as the ‘coffin’ position and is very inauspicious!

and from another website:
The Bed

The positioning of the bed is of the utmost importance. Never have your head or your feet toward door. You should be able to see the door without in any way blocking the entrance. Placing the bed diagonally in the room is excellent if you have the space. Otherwise, the head should face north or east.

Don't sleep directly beneath a ceiling fan or have anything hanging looming over the bed, and keep clutter from beneath the bed. A solid headboard offers a feeling of security.

Neither is it good to sleep directly beneath a window. If this can't be avoided, make sure to cover the window with an opaque curtain.

Anybody got any ideas how I can get past the fact that I'm in the coffin position then? The room is too narrow to have the bed sideways on, and I obviously don't want to put Alex's cot in the place of my bed, because then he'll be in the coffin position.

If anybody knows anything about feng sui - is there anything you can do to counter the bad effects of not being able to change the bed position? Hanging a crystal? Buying a goldfish? anything?

I know this sounds silly but my mam is really freaking me out lol

you could maybe re-hang the door to open the other way then put the bed behind it, where the wardrobe is now? will it fit there?

edit: just looked online and to counterbalance the coffin effect you need to do the incredibly complicated maneuver of closing the bedroom door while you sleep. :rotfl:

Yeah as above- thats the only thing i can think of except then wouldn't you have to move the xot to face the door? I have a mirror at the end of my bed which is supposed to be bad as it reflects all your days negatives back on you at night and you have restless sleep and encourage more negativiy the next day- pah maybe its true!! i should move the mirror!

yeh then I'd have to move the cot to face the door.

I'd rather me be in the coffin position than Alex.

Gah - bloody impracticalities. I guess I'm stuck as I am for now.

lol that doesn't sound so hard.....

except for the fact that I leave the door open a crack because Alex freaks out a lot if he wakes up and the room is totally dark.
So does Lydia actually.

So we leave the landing light on, and everybody has their door very slightly ajar lol

night light?

Or just re-hang the door.

could get a couple of night lights I guess.

re-hanging the door sounds too difficult lol. Our dining room door has been hanging off its hinges for months now - I don't want to screw up the bedroom door too

cheers hun x

Could you not turn youe bed round so your headis at the door end?

I think that's not meant to be good in feng sui either lol. But nice thinking.

i got a little book of feng shui and so many of the things it said were almost contradticting it made it so difficult to get them all! hehe
i always close the lid on the toilet but my money still drains away somehow!
