Hi,

Gabriella is now 4 moths old. At 3 months she was going 5-6 hours without a feed sometimes, even at night. This was when she was mainly breast fed.

Due to weight issues, she is now mainly on formula. She is taking approx 6-7 oz every 2 hours!

Is hungry baby milk just the same, or good?

Any advice?! I am so tired!

Thanks x

My Gabriella is 2 months old and during the day she can feed hourly! Luckily she sleeps around 7-8 hours s night but I end up spending the whole day just feeding!

I've seen a few people mention about hungry baby formula but I don't know anything about it. Could try and ask your health visitor for some advice :)

Have you tried upping her feeds so that she has more ounces?

Could also be a growth spurt as Harry is feeding a lot more recently.

In still bf, but he has a bottle of formula a day and he downs 9oz at a time xx

Hi,

I tend to use the ready made bottles and she drinks all but an ounce or two.

This week I offered her a dummy again, as I think she wants to suck. She has started to take it. Where she would drink milk, she now sucks on it for a min and is off!

Another thought is now its getting warmer she might be thirsty, have you tried giving some cool boiled water? I'd definitely speak to your HV about hungry baby milk.

If she's not draining the bottles every time then I'd guess hungry milk probably isn't your best bet but as the others say speak to your Hv. My lo was feeding every 2 or so hours and I've gradually eked it out to 2.45 - 3hrs at 5m. Some babies are just hungry I think but only want little and often! Or it could be thirst/spurt as others suggest. Dummy sounds like it could be the solution though as she may just want the comfort (which would explain why she doesn't always polish off bottle as if she was hungry she would) x

Am I reading this right? Your little one had weight issues with breast milk but had massive gaps in her feeds and now she feeds more frequent.. I don't see the problem.. I bet your little one is enormously thirsty especially in this weather! I don't know whose advised you to stop breast feeding and just switch over to bottles? But I'm thinking the problem will be somewhere in the reason as to why she had 5-6 hours in between feeds on the breast.. In my experience, hungry baby milk dehydrated my little boy enormously so in return he needed more water and was drinking the same amount if not more eventually.. Once you're gaining properly with your little one feeding proper, start given cool boiled water in between max 3 oz a day. Don't just move over to hungry baby milk...

Thanks for the replies.

Her weight gain was so slow, she dropped off the percentile chart. I'll be getting her weighed this week.

She's used to the hot weather as we live in spain, it seems to be just since in uk that she's feeding so much!

I think a lot of it is comfort as she does like the dummy. I'll stick to regular formula and a bit of boob. I was thinking about stopping fb anyway, as husband hates it and I want a boob job so need to get them back to normal!

As an aside hun, why does your hubby hate you breastfeeding?

We have a different climate here compared to spain... I'd suggest you go and speak with your GP.

Nat-it embarrasses him totally. I must say, I felt much more at ease doing it in Spain as opposed to here. But, Gabrielle's weight gain is on the up now which is good.

I will go to a baby clinic this week, if I can bloody find one to get her weighed and see hv. Failing that will see gp.

Today though, we are on 5th feed since 10am so not quite as many.

It's tiring!

xx
