Just saw an advert for Sainsbury's new scheme of feeding a family of 4 for a week for £50!!!! I haven't had chance to look on their website at it yet but I'm very sceptical! We spend between £80-£100 a week on food so, call me a cynic, but I doubt this can be done! What do you guys think?

we spend an average of 100 a week ona family of 8 so i think it can be done x

I spend on average 60 a week on food for the three off us, so maybe it can be done? Will deffo go get it one week and see what its all about

hahaha i have to say i mostly bulk shop in the cash and carry i have a friend good enough to let me use her card. i do love to cook. i make curries lasagne's stews roast dinners make my own pies (frozen puff pastry is ace haha) burgers ect. i just kind of wing it and normally it works out

Cool x I don't have a friend with a cash and carry card :( major sulk ;) haha x yeah I love to cook and I do pretty much the same as you x

Where do you shop Helen? I find if possible, going between 2 shops always saves £'s, different offers on in each and for me it always works out cheaper, and they are both beside eachother so that's pretty good too, my daddy bulk buys meat when it's on offer, puts it into seperate bags for seperate dinners and freezes them, also if something is on offer he will buy 4-5 of them and then it's cut out of the next few shopping trips iykwim? x

We've started separating our meat packs too. Its helped :)

Tesco as it's the only one we can get to :( they do pretty good deals though x I'm tempted to start buying in bulk and separating it all out x I should go to the fruit and veg stall instead of tesco as I know it's cheaper-I'm just lazy :(

I do the deal thing with nappies-I bought a massive pack of pampers when they were on offer and didn't buy any for 2 weeks after! Should do this more often with everything

My dad swears by the meat thing, also frozen veg could be stocked up for some dinners instead of buying fresh all of the time, they're just as good too :) I'm going to get 2 big boxes of nappies today, I got a voucher for £6 off so for 180 nappies I get them for £12.. If you ever have a problem with your nappies, make sure you complain, twice I have got £10 credit and £7 credit from huggies x

Oooooh cool x I've never thought about that-just bought a different brand! Lol! Think I'll do a bulk shop this week and see how it works out! Fingers crossed it's cheaper!

I let quite a few go without complaining but definitely wouldn't anymore :) x

I've always done the splitting the meat thing, Mum always used to do it. I carried on when I lived alone, made far more sense as I was never gonna eat four chicken breasts at a time on my own...... We always have bags of peas, sweetcorn, carrots, beans, broccoli and cauliflower in the freezer.

OH having a car again should make buying bulk again easier, we had to stop before xmas when his old car failed MOT :(

I had to pick up the menu when i was in store today. basically you have jam on toast for breakfast 3 days in the week. umm i dont think so lol

I only pay £30 a week anyway so it was more me being nosy than trying to save money lol

my last tesco online was £100 for the week and theres only 2 of us! plus some bits for lo! :o
