Is it just me or is anyone else catching anything that is going around? Since I got my BFP in New Years Day I've had:
12th/13th Jan - off work due to bad dizzy spells
13th/14th/15th Feb - off with cold
21st/22nd March - off with high BP
3rd/4th April - off with gastric flu
And now this. Normally, we are only allowed 3 occassions of sick a year at work before you have to have counselling, but if you are pregnant, you can have as much as you need, which is lucky.

Overnight I have now developed one of the worse colds I've ever had. I went to bed normal last night, but every time I woke up in the night, I felt worse. I didn't sleep much because of feeling rough, so decided at 5.15 am that I wasn't going to go to work so changed my alarm to 7am to phone in sick (yet again!!). It's now just gone 8, I ache all over, my eyes are streaming, my nose is completely blocked, and my throat is killing me. :( I think it's the throat that's the worse. Because I can't breathe through my nose, I'm breathing through my mouth which is making my throat dry and then it really hurts when I swallow. And I can't take anything for any of it! :( I'm really hungry but daren't eat because I know it's going to hurt.

I'm just really fed up with feeling ill, and want to be able to enjoy my pregnancy. Is it just me who's feeling sorry for herself??

Tankett........me too!!!!!

Mine started on Monday night......got in to work yesterday and there were a few people with it. I really can't afford to take time off now as I need to train some people so they're all in the know for when I go on leave - which may I add, couldn't come soon enough!!

I went off and bought some Echinacea chewie tablets but decided not to take them as I checked on the net and it was inconclusive whether preggers chicks could take them. One thing I did have yesterday which was lovely was some Echinacea herbal tea......really nice. Stock up on liquids and fruit (soft fruits that are easily digestible).......it's shit but it's better to stay at home at the mo with the weather being so crap again.

I'm off to work again today but I know if I stop I really will get worse.

i have a stinking cold too.

Get well soon tankett *hugs*

Sounds exactly the same as my symptons everytime i had tonsillitis..flu like symptons before the throat pain...its murder...look in your mouth and see if they are swollen..you should be able to tell if they are sticking out at the sides and red.

Not ill at the mo but trust me if there is a cold about i will catch it. Hope you feel better soon and rest up x

i know exactly how you feel have had 2 weeks with pregnancy due to one thing and another. I hate being ill and feeling like I have let everyone down. The thing is there is so many things going round and I think when preg you are more prone to pick something up. I have had a cold for 5 weeks (not bad though now) I don't think it will go until I have had this baby Roll on having this baby is all I can say!!!

Oh Tankett Hun I feel for you.. you have not had a fun time of it health wise.... I hope that it is just a 24 hour blitz cold which as the others have said is defo doing the rounds and with the bloody unpredictable weather the bugs are just not being killed off... so sorry you are suffering again - what a bummer :(

I am usually the first to get every cold and bug going due to a kidney condition that affects my immune system but I have been taking supplements for over a year now.. one zinc and one vit c and iron combined.. both OK for pregnancy along with pregnacare every day and thus far I have managed to escape all the winter bugs but I can feel it lurking in the wings as my colleagues all have it and they keep coming into work and spreading the germs.. just me left to get it now and I have a tickly sore throat and itchy eyes today... will be soooooo annoyed at them if I do get the full on cold..

Defo stick to fluids.. hot soups always my favs when sore throat and lots of fresh OJ or smoothies ... hope you feel better soon!!

Just think.. you will be seeing your little bubba dance around on screen tomorrow ... that will cheer you up!!!!!!   xxxxx

It may sound awful, but it's cheered me up a bit to know it's not just me and that others are feeling as crap as I am!!! :) Sorry if you are feeling bad, but it is comfortable to know that there are others in the same position. I've had some soup and juice and now think I'm going to go back to bed.

It's my daughters 13th birthday today and it is the first year I've not been with her (she's at her Dads for the Easter hols). I called her this morning, and she has woken up with exactly the same cold as me. Bless. It's even worse feeling bad on your birthday, especially an important one like your 13th. Poor kid. :( The good news is that she has got more than £100 in money from family so she's going shopping to buy herself a new mobile, so she's happy.

I'm just trying to focus on tomorrows scan now. The bad news is that I may need to go on my own. :( :( :( DH is a windscreen fitter and there are 6 of them working from his depot. One quit last week, and 3 others are off sick, so it is just the 2 of them doing all the jobs. He also has a job interview this evening, so has already booked to leave an hour early. He told his boss about the scan and his boss said he can come if someone comes back off sick, but I won't know until tomorrow. When he told me yesterday I sobbed my eyes out and admittidly shouted at him for being selfish in taking time off for an interview but not for our baby. I felt really guilty afterwards though. He hates his job and the interview is to go back to working as a greenkeeper on a golf course he worked on for 4 years. He absolutely loved that job and would love to go back. Also, as soon as I shouted, I looked at him and realised that he had done everything that he could to get the time off work, it is just in the hands of his work colleagues now. He feels as bad as I do that he may not be there. So I've already decided that if he can't get there, I'm still going to find out the sex because we're desperate to know, but I'm not going to tell him over the phone. I'm going to go to Mothercare on the way home and buy something in either boy or girl, and then wrap it and give it to him later.

Right, off to bed now.

Oh Tankett you poor thing, no wonder you are feeling sorry for yourself (quite rightly) you have had a rough time of it. Keep warm and take in plenty of fluids. Wishing you lots of luck for tomorrow hope DH manages to come along with you - will be logging on to see whether you have bought pink or blue!!

oh tankett - poor you! you have me crying now! i'm having a bad week too.. bloody hormones.. i hope you feel better in the morning, i hope your OH gets to go to the scan with you and i hope he gets the job at the golf club.... good luck tomorrow!

i've caught another shitty week... i think a cold would be a nice change at the moment...

keep up on the soup... don't let your little one get hungry! try sucking ice lollies if your throat gets any more dryer...

Hi Tankett,

You're not alone by the sounds of it and i've been exactly the same. I feel like all i've done is moan throughout the 1st and 2nd trimesters and i've always got something wrong with me. In the last week or so it's been suspected food poisoning, infection in my tooth and sunburn. Now my eyes are starting to play up too cause I tried to start using my contacts again. Am so fed up and want to feel this apparent 'blooming' that everyone goes on about! I really don't enjoy being pregnant and for me it's just a means to an end, and getting my gorgeous little one at the end is the only thing keeping me sane I think!!!

Hi Tankett,

Sorry your feeling so crappy and hope you get better soon!

I'm having a rubbish time too, I've not been ill yet *touch wood* but have been in hospital for early scan, had probs with bllods so had to have another scan for spina bifida, had a loss of blood been off work for last 6 weeks with bad ache and more recently suspected spd, which was confirmed yesterday at my midwife app and I have to go for physio 'cos it's quite bad! And I probably will be off sick till I've had the baby now! (which isn't a bad thing really! Apart for the sick pay!)

I would like to find out who made up the saying....'oh, the joys of pregnancy'.... I would like to hunt them down and kill them.

Only the one child for me, me thinks!!

Blimey - you're all going through is at the minute aren't you?

I feel worse today, if that was possible. I feel sick, have a cracking headache and my nose is blocked, but constantly running. :(

Anyway, scan at 3pm today. DH is hoping he'll be able to come, but his boss can't let him know until lunchtime. The interview went well last night, and he is hoping to hear but he weekend, so fingers crossed we'll have 2 bits of good news by the weekend.

Right, I need to lay down again because my nose is running with gravity!!!

Sorry you are still poorly Tankett..... hugs.

Good luck this afternoon.... cannot wait to hear your news

Sorry, not been on much as I'm still poorly. :(

I felt a bit better on Saturday, and even managed to get out of the house and go to my parents for an hour. But then on Sunday, I got progressivly worse and by the end of the day, I could hardly breath. So, no work again yesterday, but I managed to get a doctors appointment in the morning. I have sinusitis and a chest infection, which is why I feel so rough. He said he could give me antibiotics, but would sooner not. So he has signed me off work for the rest of the week, and told me to do 3-4 steam inhales a day. And if this doesn't start to clear my sinuses by Thursday, I'm to go back and get the antibiotics. This morning, I feel like I've been punched in my right eye socket, it's sooooo sore. It feels swollen, but luckily it isn't.

I'm trying to get organised ready for (hopefully) moving house, but haven't got the energy to pack anything. We are going on holiday a week on Friday, and I can't even be bothered to start packing for that either!! I feel like I have lost a fortnight.

Anyway, cup of tea calls!! I promise I will stop moaning soon!

Tankett, you have been a poorly girl, I think you have the right to be peed off.

Touch wood, I have not had any illnesses at all but have a incompetent cervix instead!! Are you taking any pregnancy vits? I have been taking mine since BFP, Im also trying to eat my 5 day portons of fruit or veg.

I hope you feel better soon

I've been taking Pregnacare since about 2 months before I conceived Eveadel. And most of the time, I do have 3 bits of fruit a day, and try to make up to 5 with the veg, although I don't always manage it.

Tankett you really are in a bad way... you poor thing!

To be honest if I were you I would take the anti-biotics.. chest infections are notorious for hanging around and you don't want it to spoil your holiday!!!!!! They will be preg safe anti-biotics and you haven't been taking loads so far in your preg have you??

I always used to get a chest infection after every cold.. so every winter basically and it really got me down.. I don't envy you.. its bloody painful and intereferes terribly with sleep [as if pregnancy sleep isn't bad enough already!!] I hope the steams help and if not... go back and get those pills!!

So a holiday and a move.. you are going to be a busy bee.. a holiday will be so good for you.. going to somewhere warm and sunny [I am very envious!!]..don't worry about losing a fortnight.. exciting times ahead so time will really be flying soon!!

take care
xx

Eveadel I too take vits. pregnacare, zinc, vit c and iron every day... not so good about the fruit and veg but I try!

I must admit it is hard to have the 5 day portions, I now buy Smoothie's which makes me feel Im doing my bit :)

I think I agree with Anna Marie, it might be a good idea to have the anti-biotics as it may linger and we all want you to be well real soon.

Hi Tankett,

Sorry you are still not feeling 100%. I will join you in the sick bay as I am full of cold today so have rung in to tell work not to be expecting me for a few days. I am usually one for carrying on regardless (much to the annoyance of my OH) I have been suffering from morning sickness particularly over the last two weeks, and for some crazy reason have still ben dragging myself into work?! This has knocked me for six though, similar symptomes to you along with a really sore ear which is making me dizzy, dosing up with paracetamol and will see how things go. Hope you feel better by Friday so you can get packing things up.
