This is a stupid first time mum question but at what age do babies start sleeping through the night and how do you get them to do it? Spencer is only a month old and keep having people tell me I need to start getting him to sleep all night and awake most of the day!

I think at this age they are still all over the place and it's too young for him to be sleeping through?

Am I being stupid?

I personally think the babies decide when they sleep through! My lo has been very good from the beginning; she has only ever woken up at 3/4am, but I don't believe it's anything we've done, she's just that way! We do a "routine" - bath, massage, bottle, bed. Started this at 6 weeks. Before that we always fed her last feed (about 10) in the bedroom, in dark, didn't talk to her etc... So she knew it was bedtime.

Also, sleep breeds sleep so nope you don't need to keep them awake during the day. My lo naps quite a lot during the day and always sleeps well! So you're deffo doing the right thing Hun! X

My daughter was brilliant. By 2 weeks old she did 2, 6 hours stints overnight and by 6 weeks was sleeping through (10pm - 8am).

Ben's 3 weeks today and is still having bottles every 4 hours, day and night.

A friend of mine had a rough experience. Her little girl slept through from 4 weeks old but then when she had her little boy he didn't sleep through until he was 18 months old! Always woke up during the night.

Another friend found the opposite. Her little girl didn't 'sleep through' until she was almost 5. She suffered with night terrors which always woke her up but then he little boy slept through from the word go!

Every baby's different. There is no right/wrong way to do things. Just follow your instincts :) xx

I found that with DD. With one friend in particular who didn't know when to keep her mouth shut. She was always telling me that I was doing this wrong and that wrong. And I definitely should never do that!! And "I did this and MY childrens were so much more well behaved than YOURS"!!

Then somebody else telling me that Cesca is so desperately behind for her age! I should do this to help her catch up or she'll never get anywhere in life!!

I listen and take note of the ones that make sense to me and disregard the rest :) xx

Oh DW :-( it's so frustrating when they sleep through it all!

Jas fell asleep on Chris at 8am and I've just had to wake her now! We've been in bed since 9.30 but I still feel tired!!

Hunni you need to nap when he does during the day to keep up your energy levels for the night. I'm sorry you're having such a hard time of it. Being a Mum is not easy, just remember that all you can do is your' best and if you need to give formula so that you can get some rest then do it. Don't feel bad for needing sleep. And we're all here for you  xxx

Honey I'm sorry you're having such a tough time. Just cry it out and don't feel bad for doing so. I honestly have no advice for you as I'm feeling exactly the same and Spencer won't sleep. I just wanted to give you massive hugs and slavery kisses from Spencer :-) x x

Awww DW, massive hugs, and big kisses from CJ! I know how you feel as I do nights on my own and it's really tough, you do what you need to do to get some rest my lovely, I started topping CJ up with formula on a night and he slept so much better, if that's what you need to do, it won't hurt him!!!!
We are all here for you when you need us Hun! Xxx

We just had our first feed of night, and so far no vomit **crosses fingers!!!** gonna try and get him back down!!!
