the OH and i both have irrational fears that i would like us to get over before LO arrives...anyone have any idea how to go about this?

Kinda dpends what they are. Facing them, concrentrating on fact that you dont want LO to get them. Hypnotheraypy - i tried that for relaxation and it was great. xxx

OH is scared of Birds (i had to re-home my lovely parrot) and i'm scared of....moths and butterflys! Ridiculous i know! I don't care about being scared about these things...but i really don't want LO to be scared of these!

Hee Hee - these are the exact two things that I'm scared of. I dont like things that flap! My OH laughs cos i have to walk round pigeons in the town.

Im kinda hoping that my disire not to put my fears on to LO will help me hide them when they're big enough to notice.
With the bird one my auntie used to get her kids to chase the pigeons in the town centre outta the way - so that she didnt have to deal with them - but the kids thought it was fun.

xxx

I would suggest hypnotherapy!
I am terrified of lady birds lol I jumped out my car in the middle of a dual carriageway once cos there was an evil red spotted thing on the window lol

mrs mc will you msg me your inbox is full and i cant send u a message sorry to hijack the thread didnt really wanna com e into this chat room, im desperate for that money lost a months wage after losing the baby.............msg me pls

im terrified of moths but i approach it on a touch me and die evil thing basis. i will teach my LO to fight its fears if possible and show it that you are strong enough to beat the things that scare you if you face up to them. might not work for other ppl but im incredibly stubborn lol

Butterflys and moths are my 2 phobias too lol, Afraid i have not been able to do anything about it but will be interested to find out if you do :-) at the same time i dont think its too irrational as i do know quite a few people who share my fear so wouldnt worry too much, Think it would be worse if it was a fear of the dark or some thing baby would be exposed to from day 1 :-)

thanks ladies its nice to know i'm not alone with my fear! :) i do want to get over it! Especially in the summer-when its boiling i WILL NOT sleep with my window open, i will cross roads just to get away from butterflys! I have cried and screamed before because a cab man wouldn't pull over when a moth was in the car--i think he thought i was nuts! haha

I am terrified of spiders (mainly big house ones and garden ones). I am scared stiff when I have a money one on me. A few years ago I decided it would he a good idea to get a tarantula as a pet to help overcome my fear. I am fascinated by the creatures even though I am scared of them.
I went into my local pet store to see which of these hairy little beasties I would purchase. The owner told me its not worth getting one until I can at least touch a tarantula skin (they shed their skins). So out she came with this moult and I was shaking so much! If there wad a spider in the same room berore I'd hafta be as far away as possible.
I cofronted it and after fifteen minutes I touched the tip of the leg...and then again afterwards. It was like something washed over me.
I got myself a G.Rosea after that (Chilean rose hair) and she became my first tarantula. One of many. They dont seem like spiders to me now..just fluffy pretty pets. I have owned some that have sadly passed...many different big and small colourful species...old world and new. Some that don't flick hairs and live aboreally. Some that fo flick and burrow or just sit on top of the soil. Now I think I own 16. I even owned one of the biggest tarantula species in the world. He was a Goliath bird eater (t.blondi) and he was massive. He ended up being about 13/14 inches.
Maybe try catching a butterfly or moth and observing it a while? Or like I used to do catch a caterpillar and keep them safe until it turns into a pretty butterfly or moth. That seemed so rewarding. I dont like them either..especiially moths!
My spider keeping has not completely overcome my fear but I can now go up to a spider and see it close. As long as it doesn't go on me I will say to my husband 'theresva spider here. Cn you get it please?' instead of 'aargh! Omg omg!' and all sorts gibberish lol.

My main fear now is bees n wasps!! Sry for all the typos!

This is just like me when it comes to butterflys and moths lol!!!

It's horrible to have phobias! Personally I have a fear of spiders and also hate clowns/masks and painted faces! From what I've read one of the best ways to get over phobias is by gradual exposure to your fear - so you might start out looking at a picture of a moth/butterfly, then perhaps visit a zoo or butterfly farm where you observe them from a distance...then once you get comfortable with that take it a step further so you're actually in an enclosure with them. Baby steps I think that's the way to go - I can now face having a spider in the same room and am comfortable with it being left there overnight although I'm not at the stage yet where I'd be able to pick one up. Good luck! x x
