Expressing question

I am currently expressing breast milk from my right breast to feed to my LO to allow my cracked nipple time to heal. I am expressing just before her feed would be due from that side anyway, so I have a good amount ready to express and then feed her straight away. My question is if I want to go out for an evening or to leave my baby with my mum, when would I express then? If the breast is not ready for a feed would I get enough milk out for a full feed to leave for her? What do you do? Thanks for any help xx

It's tricky, as in the early weeks your supply is still being established. These days Finn goes to bed at a set time (7pm) and I know he won't want feeding until at least 11/12) so I usually express around 9pm. I would normally get around 4oz at that point.
I found it very difficult in the early weeks as Finn's feeds were very unpredictable. I ended up leaving formula for him when I had to have some dental treatment done, which isn't ideal.
You could try expressing a little after every feed, rather than trying to express a whole feed in one go? x
