Hi

I gave birth on the 3rd Oct. Sadly I hao have a Episiotomy. The thing is I think it actually feels more sore/tender more than it did then few days ago. Is.this normal?

I'm absolutely terrified it'll get infected. I put a shower head down around that area both morning and night but I'm worried is this enough... ? :(

I bathed in tea tree oil every evening. Used to shower and then sit in bath for few minutes straight after solely for that purpose. Helped heal very quickly.

Also kept witch hazel in fridge and put some on a breast pad of all things and set on top of pad .

Hope u heal quickly.

Congratulations x

I was the same, very sore after a few days as I think the effect of all the drugs I had in hospital had worn off. Tea tree oil in my bath also really helped me too, noticeable difference. I didn't stop sitting on extra cushions for nearly two week though.
Sudocreme will help but I wouldn't suggest you use it for a few weeks yet just in case.

Hope you heal quickly xxx

Congrats on the birth of your little one.

I wasnt cut but had a ventous delivery with a second degree tear. I was at my most sore a day or two after. Pain killers wore off, i was moving around more etc I also had a lot of bruising which was slow to come out so that was quite sore too.

Keep it nice and clean and get it checked if you are worried. Take paracetamol to help with the pain.

take pain killers keep it clean and rest as much as u can x

Congratulations on the birth of your lo :yay:

I also had an episiotomy and it took quite a while to heal but I had a few other problems too as I needed a couple of transfusions so my body took a while to recover.

I just made sure I kept it clean. Anytime I went to the loo I took a jug of warm water with me and stood over the toilet to go and poured the water as I went iykwim. This helped a lot with the stinging as I found it hard to go to the toilet. One of the midwives recommended badedas bath cream to help soothe it. I was having baths twice a day and it really helped to soothe things for me and it smells nice too. You can get it from Tesco's etc.

It will take time to recover hun, please don't rush things and make sure you are trying to take it easy, but if you are at all worried over the next few days speak to your mw during her next check. (think they do one at 9/10 days old) I got my mw to check my wound then as I was worried about infection and she took a swab to check. (I did end up with an infection but think this was due to my stitches coming undone, I got some antibiotics from the doctors and it cleared up within the week.)

I had an episiotomy and vacuum delivery just over 2 weeks ago....I really feel your pain regarding the episiotomy, for the first week afterwards I was in so much pain, and became constipated as I couldn't pass a bowel movement!! I ended up in tears one night in the bathroom, and my hubby had to come and comfort me, I was in such a bad state!! I actually felt that I had been mutilated in some kinda way down below, because during the birth it wasnt even explained to me that I was being cut....I had no idea until I felt the doctor cut into me (he had used local anaesthetic but fussed around that much it actually wore off by the time he cut, and I had no other pain relief during labour except gas and air which had been taken off me).
Luckily 2 weeks later the pain has gone, I still have a bit of trouble with bowel movements (mainly that it feels like I can't actually go!), but I am hoping that given a bit more time everything will heal up and go back to normal (ish!!).
I use tea tree oil in the bath and on sanitary towels which definitely has helped the healing process.

Hope you feel better soon xx

I had one and it was painful to start with, I was taking painkillers in the beginning.
Every time I went to the loo, I would fill a jug with warm water and put tea tree oil in and pour it once I was finished. Then dry thouroughly.
It healed quickly and didnt get infected.

sounds like me never got told i was being cut only pain relife gas and air taken off me

I remember feeling like i couldn't poo. Make sure you eat LOADS of fibre and drink lots of water to keep your bowel movements soft and easy to pass, you've pushed enough during labour you really don't want to be straining for the loo as it can cause more issues.
Xx

I had one n couldnt sit for 2 weeks.
I was told baths are better with lavendar oil mixed with milk n it did help x

I'm still in shock over it tbh!!! You have my full sympathy!! xxx

I had one and it did get infected despite my best efforts to keep it clean. 3x baths a day and it still didn't work.

After I found out it was infected, I put tea tree drops on my pad and that seemed to do wonders healing it up. Oh and I put it in the bath as well.

I love badedas. I smell it and become all nostalgic. Lol

Tea tree oil rocks. I used it from the very beginning

Tapatalking so cant see signatures

I didn't have an epistomy but I had a 3rd degree tear instead so looking back I sort of wish I had been cut, although I never thought I'd see myself say that!! I found keeping the wound clean in the shower like you was ok but the midwife also advised me to air the wound once a day so after a shower I lay myself down on the bed for a few mins before getting dressed and I think that helped as I healed quickly.

I agree with everyone else though that it got more sore before it got better! I also found having a look to see exactly what had been done helped me to feel better about it as it was much much worse in my imagination than it was in reality so if you haven't already looked I would suggest having a peek if you can.

I hope you feel better very soon!

Lol. I used to dry my bits with the hairdryer on a cool setting. That made for an interesting sight.

Forgot to add, my bits are back to normal now. I don't have any lasting problems at all.

i had an episiotomy as they preparing for a suction delivery in the end didny need suction an hence thot they - was extremely sore and awkward to get up for a good week afterwards i wore two pads for comfort as well as the bleeding - kept it clean by showering or bathing and using a jug of cold water for first week while peeing

bowel movements were non existent till 5 days after birth and then i just had to go wen i was realli ready to avoid strainin seem to be back to normal now

hubby and i have also dtd which was a bit daunting as not done it for at least 3 months and i dunno who was more nervous an dthis is tmi but hubby sed it wasny as slack as he thot it wud be cheeky bugger xx
