Just wondered what people's views were on having/not having one? X

I'd prefer not to have one but if I need one I'm open to it x

Same - I'd like not to have one but if I need to - How are you feeling after the sweep? X

I hope mine comes soon then. I'm booked in for a sweep on Friday 13th! :(

I always said no...and had one. Was amazing lol. I didnt like not being mobile tho that was annoying and I ciuldbt feek contractions but could see them on the monitor but pain wise sorted me right out. Xx

mummy to ds 11/7/11
pregnant *team pink* due 12/9/13

Same, ideally I wouldn't want one but when it comes to it I might! X

I really, really don't want one. I've told OH that under no circumstances is he to let the nurses give in to me if I ask for one during labour.

I wasn't keen as I wanted to go home ASAP after delivery but I'm going to be kept in for 24 hours after for monitoring anyway so thinking now if I need one I might opt for it x

I have no strong opinions on them - I don't plan on having one but if I feel like I really need one during labour I will request one, I think you can never say never until you are in labour as you never know how good your pain threshold is until that point hehe xx

I really don't want one because of the extra risk of interventions and slower labour - but I think I'd be considering it if I was gonna be induced. Tough to know until we're in the situation, ill never say never! X

I plan to not have one but everything is subject to change lol my birth plan is that I have no plan! X

An epidural is the last resort for me physio said I'm not allowed to have a lying down feet in stirrups so itl b gas n air I dnt really want one unless I can't cope x wanna b mobile and able to walk about n move x

I was always against having one.... wanted a very natural birth, being able to feel contractions and urge to push etc. But when it came to it and I had been pushing for 2 hours and awake for nearly 3 days I needed the break!!

I had an epidural where I could feel my legs and the contractions, just took the edge off - I didn't even know you could do this tbh! Learnt something new, as did my mum and partner.

Then this was upped as things got worse.... was a very strange feeling not being able to feel my legs and the actual feeling of pushing George out was different than what I expected. It took all the pain away and the pressure sensation was enormous.

I think some people get bogged down with being a 'supermum' during labour, thinking they get some kind of medal at the end.

If you need/want one... have one! My midwife kept saying 'you don't get brownie points love!' lol xxx

I had a birth with an epidural & one without. Whilst I didn't have any pain with my first, I ended up having an episiotomy & ventouse as I mustn't have pushed as hard as I should. They nearly pulled his head off (ventouse is not for the faint hearted!) & my baby didn't settle for weeks (think it gave him a headache). With my second, I didn't have any pain relief, just breathed my way through it & yes, it was painful, but I did it all by myself & had a much more settled baby. You could argue that after one, everything had stretched & made it easier, but I think if you can work with your body, it will tell you what to do. Hopefully med free this time, but I wouldn't rule anything out in case you really do need it :) xx

I'm gonna have to google ventouse seen this word on information my physio have me :-/ x

Be open to all possibilities on the day.

I didn't have one, despite needing to go on the drip to dilate the last 4cm (and I had my waters broken too)

I was in agony but my body did what it needed to do and I delivered without so much as a graze!

I started a thread a while back asking if epidurals were linked to needing an assisted delivery..

I wanted one no matter what at the start but the closer I get to my due date the more I'm thinking I'll just see how I cope etc xx

If I am in the MLU as planned, it won't be available to me anyway. My hope is that I can cope without, I hope I don't end up screaming for one and not being able to get one
