Epic oversight!!! How did I miss this!!

Arghhhhh you know those moments in life when you can literally kick yourself for being so stupid .... well I am having one of those moments!!!

Where to start ..... well I guess it all started after reading Maybe Babys and Cosmics posts about having a high cervix and both of them getting their BFP's I decided that this cycle I was really going to monitor my cervix position over ovulation to see if it went high, and it was by doing this that I realised that I had been overlooking a really important factor in my cycles!!

Good Friday I got a positive opk and some ewcm, so I decided to check my cp it was low and soft, the same the next day and the same the day after that, which left me thinking is my cervix afraid of hights or something but it also got me thinking "what if" ovulation hasnt happened yet hmmmmm

We carried on doing the baby dance up to and including today, so its now been 3 days since my positive opk. But I couldnt shake the feeling that something wasnt right as my cervix is still low, its nice and soft and wet but low!! However a couple of hours after sexy time today I checked my CP and it was HIGH!!

So I sat down with my diary and looked up all my cycles from this year and last and then it hit me like a giant smack in the face !!

I have always thought I had a 14 day luteal phase as I always started spotting 14 days after my positive opk .... however what I failed to notice and feel so friggin stupid about is that although I started spotting on time, AF never officially arrived full flow for a further 3 days which means.......

I HAVE A 17- 18 DAY LUTEAL PHASE arghhhhhhhhh!!!!

All this time I have been going ten to the dozen when I get my positive opk and for a day or two after when in fact I should be bd'ing 3 - 4 days AFTER my positive opk!!!

Looking back in my diary out of the last 6 cycles we only actually had sex twice on the right day!!!

Now can you see how bloody annoyed I am at myself!! Even now I am sitting here with ovary pains thinking how did I not notice this before!! My cervix has dropped a bit now but its still really squishy!!!

Despite me being ridiculously annoyed with myself I am also feeling hughley optimistic about our future, when hubby got home I gave him a real Braveheart/Independance Day style speech about this being it, this is our moment lol

I am looking at 3 - 4 months before we start ivf, so I have that time to put this new information in to practic and see if this is whats been preventing us from getting pregnant!!

Hi Vicky, I also remember you, really sorry your having trouble TTC at the moment, but it does sound like there is some pattern to your cycles, now youve looked back - good job you took notes over the past cycles. I thought Luteal phase was quite fixed at 14 days or shorter, but just looked it up online and it says you can get longer luteal phase issues too. I would bed right through the before and after , every other day if you can, I know this turns into a chore in the end, but just incase youve covered all lengths of cycle, esp for the next few months, and maybee you won't need that ivf after all.

Its just sooo annoying as you believe its all text book when it comes to these things that you dont think to look outside the box to see if your missing something!! We have been quite lucky this cycle as the sex has been very enjoyable so doesnt feel like a chore at all, where as past months it has been a struggle!!

So today I start my official two week wait ..... its going to be a long one!!!!

Ahh wow well done you, I do believe opks have only a certain amount of accuracy and I do believe your bang on with your cervix theory, it's also been true for me that if it's low 3/4 days before AF the witch will always show, high and you're preggers!

You should also be able to feel a hole at the opening of the cervix, you'll get to know when it's open and when it's closed.

My cervix messes with me....its up then down...then up then down, so ive given up! I think im gonna try OPK's for the 1st time in over a year to see if my body is working on its own for a change.

Ooooh this is cool. I do opks, temps, chech cm but don't do actual cervix checking. Think I will going forward, thank you so much!!! This may be what is needed to get u ur bfp!!!! Woop woop.

My cervix is totally random and I was told bleeding when you wake is AF, not necessarily full flow.

I am a bit surprised your not having sex more often though. Every 2-3 days for a week or two would cover all bases xx

I know cervix position isn't a guaranteed method so can't be fully trusted!! My cervix clearly didn't get the memo that it is supposed to be low during AF as when I checked it on my last period it was very high

However what makes me think I could ovulate "72 hours" after a positive opk is a tracking scan I had done last year that i went to 3 days after a positive opk and they told me I had just released an egg!!

Because I have been on clomid for a while my cm is almost non existence and I get very dry, I only ever notice some a day or so before a positive opk, never after, so it makes me wonder just how long DH's swimmers can survive the days after a positive.

Lou what i meant by not having bd on the right day is that we usually bd the day of a positive and one or two days after, then we have a day or two break, so if I am ovulating later then we have been missing it

At the end of the day this is still all theory and i could have it all wrong ........ BUT what if I am right!!

If nothing else this has helped boost my pma and given me some hope back xxx

Hi vic, I'm sure you're still bding enough by the sounds of it. I recently went over my old diaries from 2010 and 2011 and made the discovery that my lp is 16days not 14 that I always thought! So you're not alone there! I've never checked my cervix to be honest, I'm too sqweamish (no idea how to spell this lol). Hoping your new discovery will result in bfp very soon! Xxxxx

lol Vick glad you've got a new glimmer of hope and a few more pops at the egg before IVF fingers crossed for you!. My cervix is a mover lol it never does what its supposed too. However mine goes hard just before AF and stays squishy when im pregnant. x

Well my smear nurse did use to tell me that I had a perfect cervix lol

So today I got up extra early this morning so I could jump DH before he had to get up for work laid in bed for a good hour after, managed to keep all swimmers inside as well yay!!

Cervix check today ... high this morning, slightly lower this afternoon!! Few niggles and pains in ovary area!!

Going to go once more again tomorrow night and then I am having a break ...... 6 days in a row is more then enough!!

Cervix check today, high in the am lower this evening (which is its normal pattern) opening is now closed but still quite soft!!

Ohh should also add today is 5 days since positive opk!! But only 2 days since ovulation if my new theory is correct!!

Cant believe how excited I am about this 2WW!!!
