I got a pouch of Ella's kitchen baby food today, one of the fruity ones with sweet potato as well. I know the guidelines for weaning babies is 6 months, and my plan was to wean Felix at 5 'cos he already watches food like a hawk and shows very little interest in milk, but on the pouch it says suitable from 4 months.
I don't know whether to try giving him some to see how he reacts because the pouch say it's okay, or whether it's just too soon. Any thoughts?

Personally I waited.

The whole food labelling thing is a red herring as the guidelines say 6 months but legally companies are allowed to say from 4 months so basically the guidelines are not supported by the law hence making them irrelevant.

Eventually I assume the legal side will catch up with the guidelines.

This said there is absolutely no harm in trying?

I decided to wait purely as I hated weaning last time lol.

Bee is 6 months exactly today and she has already had a few of the EK 'first taste' pouches all well as actual food (toast, sweet potato, broccoli, raw peppers, courgette) but I only started a few weeks back gradually introducing stuff.

X

Yeah I was thinking I might give it another 4 weeks then try him with it, I just know he'll love his food so can't wait to let him try it haha xo

Could you try him on some fruit instead, or something homemade like mash potato amd milk? The pouches are packed full of sugar so not really healthy, although saying that EK is better than most.

I've posted recently on another thread about weaning my son early at four months. He was refluxy and refusing feeds. Personally I think weaning early was the best thing to do and will do it again with my youngest too. The guidance is from six months, a lot of babies begin to show an interest in solids before hand. We stuck to mainly fruit and veg purees and baby porridge until six months. Then added more variety and finger foods from six months.

There is no harm in offering it to your LO. Personally we started with baby rice mixed with milk just to get him used to solids with something with a familiar taste.

I weaned my eldest at 4 months. He was constantly watching me eat and was a very hungry baby.

My daughter is refluxy and very constipated and the gp prescribed her lactose yesterday but she said if she had been 17 weeks she would have suggested weaning her.but she wouldn't advise weaning before 17 weeks. With her being 7 weeks premature I don't plan on weaning her until she's 6 months but at nearly 4 months she's not interested at all yet xxx

Ella's kitchen is organic and has no added sugar.. Fruit contains natural sugars..

They advise vegs over fruit as vegs is not sweet like many fruits...

They advise no earlier than 17 weeks as this is when they bowels and digestive system mature enough

I'd wait till then at least. I weaned early at just before 5 months but we had massive reflux battle - not that it made much difference mind

Have a Google of feeding cues, etc and see what you think
