Hi ladies,

Anyone got experience of baby/toddler having eczema on their face? Not sure if I should be avoiding using baby shampoo, bubble bath etc and if so what is best to use instead?

Thanks

Jess gets it round her neck and chin, quite badly at times. Bubbleshave had to go sadly, I use oilatum daily in the bath, wash her hair with baby shampoo every 3 days, and liberally slap on epaderm after bath. Steroid cream too when its really bad. It does suck having to put all the creams on but it works, the moment I let it slip it comes back.

My son started with eczema as a baby I had to use sensitive baby wash and bubble bath. I can't remember the name now though it was in a white bottle and had to moisturise with oilatum junior I think xxx

I'd stop using anything like shampoo, bubble bath etc. If you take your LO to the doctors, they can prescribe emollient for the bath, creams etc.

My ds had really bad eczema on his face when he was younger (up to 1 with flare ups now and again at nearly 2).

I used johnsons shampoo every few days but rinsed backwards, oilatum bath stuff in the bath and to wash him with. I've just started using an oilatum wash on him that lathers up on a sponge and seems good.

I would def take them to Drs as you can get all the stuff on prescription also hydrocortisone cream 0.5% was the only thing that would bring a bad flare up under control and its prescription only for the lower dose.

xx

And I also managed to get Aveno on script from the doctors - this helped better than e45, epiderm and that thick white stuff (cant remember the name) and its safe to use on his face. We have the steroid ointment for when it flares up but cant use it on his face

xx

My Lo had it bad. He's managed now with Dermol bath stuff rather than oilatum. Oilatum can be quite greasy although very good !! Dermol has an antibacterial agent in it coz I said what if he poos how will I know he's clean coz I felt wierd not using soap etc. Epaderm am and pm. We had diprobase too but Epaderm is the latest cream out I think. Changed the washing powder to non bio. Tomatoes and Oranges can affect it apparently and it does with my Lo especially oranges !! Xx

Thanks ladies, really appreciate all the suggestions and am willing to try them all and see what works best for her :)

I have an appointment with GP for her tomorrow morning so will see if I can get a prescription for cream and the bath ointment stuff and take it from there. I have also been told by someone on facebook that solid coconut oil is good for baths etc - anyone here ever used it? x

We have aveeno bath and shower oil and the aveeno moisture cream for the face- we got it on prescription after I bought it myself to see if it worked as I was at the end of my tether. It's fab - only thing that's worked for my son.

Never heard of coconut oil, we tried oats tied up in a bit of a pair of tights. It was a bit messy and a bit of a hassle. I didn't use it long enough to know if it made a difference.

x

We have also been prescribed Aveno for my 16 month old and I can't believe how quick his has cleared up ! Deffo recommend it xx

I tried literally everything for my son, found aveeno was the best but still didn't stop it enough to not have to use steroid cream twice a day on the worst bits.
I then started working with Forever Living so started using their products. The Aloe hand & face soap to wash him in and the propolis creme as a moisturiser. Been using for the last 5 months and have only had to use the steroid cream 3 times in that time!! Can highly recommend these products

My LO broke out in little pimples on his face, arms and legs.. GP confirmed it was eczema.
I've been given Emollient Cream, hopefully that works to reduce it.

Are there any products/things I should avoid?

Our little lady has just been prescribed oilatum for the eczema also on her face next chin and top of chest. Nowhere else on her luckily. Should I have asked for something to use in the bath. Sometimes she needs a lather up.

Oilatum bath additive is good, they do a junior body wash too but not sure what age that's suitable from.

I found dream cream from lush good to keep it at baby once under control, more natural than emollients.

Some people change washing powder, stop using fabric softener, stop diary etc. I tried all of those and nothing worked.
