I put your name Erin as I know that Emily had it quite bad, but obviously anyone who can help Ill be glad for the help!!

Paige has eczema on her face, head, neck and now the backs of her knees and its spreading by the looks of things. Its effecting her sleep as she waking up constantly trying to scratch it and now she will 9 times out of 10 wake up crying because it seems to be so itchy. Ive also got to have her constantly in mits now as she just hacks at her forehead then obviously gest upset when she cuts herself. I went to boots and asked the pharmasist (sp!!??) and they looked at me like I was crazy and gave me cradle cap shampoo :wall: Dont think they believed me it was eczema.

So! Question is...should I ring the doctor and try get her an appointment asap (she seems quite distressed at times) and also...is there anything that will help the itching. I dont even care about clearing it up I just need it to stop causing her stress. The patches on the backs of her knees are the size of her palms and bright red although dont seem to be bothering her.

Its just getting pretty stressful now and even though I know its probably not that bad compared to others, she gets so upset :(

I would head to the drs poor thing, it is so difficult to know what to do isn't it sometimes... I use hydromol (sp) emolient and lotion. Coconut oil is supposed to be good for eczema too :flower:

Where do you get the hydromol from? I just googled it but it didnt come up with a shop. I think Ill ring in the morning and try get her in. Even if they just advise something from the shops. I guess they see it all the time so probably have some suggestions.

Best thing is an aquaris (not sure if spelt right) cream, you can apply as much as you like and as often as you like. Its really important to catch it early as it can become infected and you have to use steriod cream. Bath emoliants are great too - but deffo see your dr as they will prescribe it free x

My son and daughter had eczema when they were younger and it used to get infected dispite my creaming so i went to a homeopath. She used a machine called a vegatron machine and it showed foods that their body did not react well too. She gave my son some drops to start with too. We avoided these food for a year or so orange being the worst and now they both eat them all and have never had eczema since x Did cost a bit but worth it in the long run x

Ella had that and it had progressed into a skin infection- apparently that's what it is if it is spreading down back and chest. She had a weeks dose of antibiotics and her skin was perfect again in just 2 days! Def go see the doc. X

:-( poor Paige! I know exactly how you feel.

Get her to the docs. All the things the other girls have said, I used and they didn't work well enough to stop the itching. We got referred to the hospital for in the end and she is now on steroid creams which aren't great but she has absolutely no urge to itch and is Soooo happy!!

Let us know what docs say xxx

Grace had dry itchy skin from about 6 months until she reached about 18 months. We used Oilatum bath stuff, shampoo and cream. You can buy from chemist but you can get it free on prescription. It was the only thing that helped Grace's skin. Her skin is perfect now and she doesn't need anything. I think most of the time they grow out of it eventually. She always had dry skin all over and couldn't stop itching, she used to make herself bleed at times. She did have very bad cradle cap as a baby so I can see why maybe they gave that to you, although it def sounds like eczema to me. I had to put cream on Grace like four times a day, maybe more to keep her skin hydrated. When it was really bad the doc would give us hydrocortisone cream to calm it down, this always worked very quickly.

Thank you everyone! I know thats its really common so everyone has advice, its fab! I swear the central heating and cold really isn't helping at the moment either.

Ive rang the doctors and they're going to ring back later when they know if they can fit her in. Apparently they had no appointments this week at all so Ive had to put her down for triage (sp?). I said its not an emergancy but Id rather it was sorted sooned rather than later.

Last night was a bad night :( She just wouldnt stop scratching so couldnt sleep so I put her in bed with me and when she scratched I gently held her arms until she fell back asleep. she doesnt seem as cheerful as she was. I got no smiles this morning :(

Managed to get an appointment at 2:12pm. Ive had a good scan of her skin while she had some nappy free time and shes actually got it covering her belly and its starting on the bottom of her back as well :(

On the phone the nurse mentioned about her needing a stronger moisturiser so hopefully she'll get something today. Poor thing.

How did it go Mel?? Xxx

The nurse was fab! Shes given me at least 7 different creams, some to just apply throughout the day, others that are for the bath, some that can be used for either. So Ive got to try these and see which I prefer and which works best for us and then I just have to ring up and theyll give me a perscription. Ive got one called Epaderm which Im using tonight as she said its probably going to be good for bedtimes so see how that goes. I think she wants me to bathe her everyday with the creams in and still use the cradle cap shampoo.

Cant believe how many creams she gave me though but like she said, theres no point in giving me a massive tub of one thing and not have it work. Better to try them all out first. She doesnt want to try steroid cream yet, but as Ive had to use it for my own skin I know the cons for it and would rather avoid it unless nothing works.

Lets just hope something works for us!! :D

Glad you got it sorted hun, lets hope you find the one that suits soon x

Hope one of them works for poor Paige :-(. We had epaderm, wish it worked for Emily. I would give anything for her not to have steroid cream on her gorgeous skin x

Last night Paige only woke up twice. TWICE! :yay: Shes been waking up crying about 10 times a night lately and last night she just stirred a tiny bit for her dummy and fell straight back to sleep and didnt even wake up crying this morning. She wokeup with smiles which she hasnt done in ages :D

Im going to try a differnt bath cream but keep using the epaderm for applying directly. Its so odd that shes so much happier already. Im just hoping that it can carry on helping.

Hope emilys skin clears up. Paige has only had it mild compared to Emily I think and I know how upsetting having it just a bit has been. Thanks everyone as well :D Yay for good skin!

Grace has used Epaderm before and it seems quite good also, fingers crossed that will improve it for her x
