Early scan showed twins with no fetal pole

Hello,
This is my first post on this forum, but Ive been driving myself crazy in my current 2 week wait between scans.
I went for an early scan 9 days ago due to previous ruptured ectopic. The scan showed 2 gestational and yolk sacs but no fetal pole. My dates put me at 5 weeks 5 days. With previous pregnancies (one live child) I always saw the fetal pole at this stage.
Has anyone else had the surprise of two sacs in an early scan? And Has anyone else been through this? Booked in for another scan Friday and getting pretty anxious!
Thanks ladies in advance.

It is very common to not see a fetal pole or heartbeat at 5.5weeks pregnant. That fact that you saw one in your previous pregnancy might suggest that you actually ovulated a little earlier than you thought, even a day or so can make a huge difference.

Ive never experiences twins, but have experienced the early scan and lack or fetal pole/heartbeat. I think I was around your date also. There was nothing to see other than the sac and yolk, the sonographer did explain that it was highly unlikely to see anything at that gestation. I went back at 7wks 2 days and there was a little embryo and with a heartbeat.

I wish I could say that everything will be fine, but I can't as no pregnancy is guaranteed. But that fact that both sacs are showing a yolk is a good sign. Wish you lots of luck for your next scan. Keep us posted xxx

Thank you for your reply. I think its all made harder that I miscarried twins before my son was born after I had seen the heartbeats.

It would have been nice for my ultrasound tech to have given me some feedback. But very little was said!
I will let you know how I get on.
Xx

Hi, I've not experienced this but just wanted to wish you lots of luck xx

Hi I had a scan at 5.6 and only saw a yolk. I went back at exactly 8 weeks and saw an actual baby shape with heartbeat. With my daughter I only had foetal pole at 6.4 and had to wait until I was past 7 weeks to see a heartbeat. Don’t worry it sounds pretty normal as far as my knowledge goes. Congratulations on your twins xx

Thank you so much for your replies.
Ive had 2 miscarriages and a ruptured ectopic so I never really relax until ive seen the heartbeat.
You have given me faith that there may be a positive outcome.
I have no symptoms at all other than sore boobs. Whereas with the other (other than ectopic) I had horrendous sickness.
Friday cant come soon enough
Xx

FX Emma <3 I hope that come Friday all your fears will be laid to rest and that you will be able to enjoy this pregnancy! WOW twins, how amazing is that!!

Thank you Kat. Seems like one big waiting game!
Hopefully I can relax after Friday x

Keeping fingers crossed for good news on Friday for you.
Lots of people don't have symptoms at all so see your boobs as a good sign. All pregnancies are different so maybe you'll just be lucky and not suffer with sickness through this one.

Keeping my fingers and toes crossed for two sticky beans for you

I can understand your anxieties EmmaCharlotte. Fingers crossed for you and hope to hear some happy news after your next scan :)

Thank you Donna, I guess there is no point trying to second guess anything as I have no control. Easier said than done! Xx

Sydney thank you. I see you also lost a tube to a ruptured ectopic, im so sorry. Just to give you hope since I lost my tube I have conceived 3 times. My little boy, a miscarriage and now this time.
2 out of the three times my remaining tube had moved to collect the egg from the opposite side (corpus luteum was on ovary without a tube).
I always found success stories reassuring to hear xx

Thank you EmmaCharlotte - I love real life success stories! They definitely keep me going. I have read about transmigration of ovum and it's just amazing isn't it! My ectopic was my only pregnancy and so while it's positive I managed to get pregnant naturally, I see one less tube as a major obstacle, and being mid-thirties I'm kinda freaking out :( Have been hoping I could just have twins and be done with TTC for good! I certainly know they are hard work, but I don't want to be TTC or pregnant any longer than necessary - don't think I'll enjoy it.

I had my scan today, two healthy beating hearts!
One dated 7+3 and one 7+4.
Which means i just had a very early positive pregnancy test at 7dpo, hence no heartbeat last time. Just trying to get my head around twins!

Ah thank you lovely. Must admit it was a massive relief! Not sure my husband has got his head round the idea of twins though!
