Early Induction Due to PGP

I have PGP and I have it pretty bad...the fact I have existing back problems has added to it. It started of with pelvic pain then spread to my inner thighs and now it's going right round the pack of my thighs too. Moving about is becoming problematic and turning in bed was difficult before but is a definite no-no now (have to wake up properly to climb out of bed, steadily weight bear & then turn around to climb in bed the other way).

Last night was particularly bad that I had a soak in the bath & had to spend the entire night on the bed because I was in so much pain (to the point of crying!) - the most relief I get is from walking around once I've got going but then this adds to the pain when I need to rest. Hubby was quite worried as I haven't really complained about the pain & suggested if it continues to speak to the midwife about the possibility of induction. I've said all along I want the process to be as natural but when hubby mentioned this I found myself agreeing with him. I don't want to make any decisions yet but I'd like to know if this would be an option (or that they can assure me they will not let me go past due date) should the pain not ease?

Has anyone ever been induced due to pgp? Or are you made to grin & bear it? xx

Hiya, I was signed off work at 6 months with my wee boy because of pgp, like you described it was a military mission to change position in bed. Unfortunately they wouldn't induce me early but everyone and everywhere is different. Are you on any pain killers? I was put on cocodamol which took the edge off a bit but had to stop them around 38 weeks as it can affect babies lungs. Around then though I started using my tens machine. No one could tell me if it was ok to use it and the biggest concern wa hat I'd go into labour, well that certainly didn't happen!
It's so hard being in that much pain all of the time.

Thanks meg. I'm on cocodamol - it's certainly doing something because I'm sleeping better but it's doing little for the pain! I saw the doc just after xmas and he wanted to sign me off until due date which I'm reluctant to do! I have stuff I need to sort at work (for my peace of mind) and luckily I only work 10 minutes away which doesn't make me feel as crap as a 30 min + journey like I used to have!

Did you specifically ask about induction? Did the tens machine help? xx

I'd try to tie things up soonish at work if you can. I felt terrible just abandoning all my caseload.
Yeah I did ask about induction numerous times with gp and mw, straight no. Maybe they didn't feel I was bad enough.
The tens did help a bit and I used it during labour too. If they don't agree to early induction I'd definitely have acupuncture as soon as you hit your due date. My friend is a physio and within two days of giving acupuncture to our other friend and her sister in law their babies had arrived!

As much as I don't want to I think I'm gonna have to seriously consider finishing sooner than planned! I feel like a blubbering wreck at this moment in time :/

Your health is far more important than work Hun! I was off all over Christmas and discovered my PGP pretty much halfed In severity - I've come to conclusion it's work that's doing it- stairs, desk, etc etc - 4th day in and it's starting to ache my hips again

Work will have to put up with it if it's doctors orders xx

I'm not so much worried about how work will be - they've been very supportive and would probably tell me to follow doctors orders. The more I think about it, the more reasons I find not to follow them! If I hold out until 7 Feb, I won't have to return to work until the new year, meaning I'll be using leave over end of November & December so I'll have a full wage that month & no childcare to pay for which would be really beneficial. I'm just gonna take each day as it comes & I'm gonna speak to the midwife today about possibilities if the pain continues to get worse towards the end. Hopefully this won't be a problem & everything can happen naturally xx

Ahhh I see what you mean - fingers crossed x

I think if it is an option, it will take a load off my shoulders knowing that the option is there.

I've just done my birth plan to discuss with her too :) xx

Just an update - saw midwife yesterday & explained the above. She advised that if the pain continued she would refer to the consultant to discuss as ultimately he/she would have to make the decision. She also said she'd advise against it unless absolutely necessary & try to labour naturally for obvious reasons xx
