Hey all,

My wife wants to do a week intensive driving course when she is 16w preggers. She's 6w just now (had a m/c at 9w in Jan).

I am worried it would be too stressful and be too risky.

Anybody got any thoughts on this?

Thanks :)

I'm sorry for your loss in Jan X

I'm sure the intensive driving course would not have any negative effect on the baby, and that would be a great time to learn so she is fully up and running by the time baby is born, it will open more options to her as a new mum with travel - great idea

I'm currently learning to drive too - not doing an intensive but will be having a test in July. As long as she doesn't think it will be too stressful, I'm sure it will be fine!

SPC xx

no i think its a gud idea she needs 2 pass before baby comes to give her more independence.

Sorry to hear of your loss hun
I passed around a week ago (when I was 7 months pregnant) it definately feels great afterwards.
Is she doing her intensive course away from home, or near home?
I think its a great idea, so much opens up to you when you can drive and with the baby on the way it can help with the nerves as you know you are not just doing it for yourself.

I can understand how you feel your wife doing soemthing like this so soon after mc, as me and my OH felt the same about alot of things when I mc.

16 weeks or later is the probably the best time to do it and just remember to make her rest after her days course, that way her concentration is all about the roads and driving.
All the best to you and your wife and hope she passes on the day x

Thanks for all your feedback, it's good to hear other peoples opinions!

The course it based where we live. 6 hours a day for 6 days...

:)

i passed my test last saturday at 17 weeks pregnant i was fine hun x

I did an intensive course when I was 19.

Worst most stressful thing I ever did in my life! I was exhausted mentally and physically. Imagine now, being an experienced driver driving a car for 6 hours a day. Now imagine doing that for 6 days with someone who will start out a stranger and you might not even like them!

Now imagine doing all that when you're pregnant! I can't think of anything worse in the summer than being pregnant and stuck in a car for 6 hours a day.

When it came to doing my test at the end of the week I realised I wasn't that confident in my driving after all. The whole thing had been such a stress that I'd worked myself up to a point of no return. I'm a happy confident person and I was a wreck when it came to the test. I failed within the first 3 minutes and then didn't even attempt to get in a car for another two years.

So, my advice would be for her to take her time and spread the stress out over a period of time. Whatever she decides - good luck!

Oh my! I was thinking of doing one of these courses as my OH bought a car for when the baby comes and he uses his van during the day but i think maybe i should wait now.

I guess it depends on the person and how patient they are and whether they are prone to stress (like me!) This is probably not the best weather to be doing it in either :(

Even though it would be so nice to have my indepenance and be able to pop here and there when bubba is born :(

I said to my wife that she should do it after the birth (if all goes well that is...touch wood!). She saus she wouldn't want to spend time away from the baby so early on. Fair point lol

Just abit worried that's all.
