Hi,

We just found out I'm pregnant but have been ttc with clomid for some time. We have quite a big German Shepard and he is always a bit funny with people and dogs, but over the last 2-3 weeks he has really been warning people (just growling and barking - but still not very nice from a big dog) to stay away when he is with me. I'm pretty sure he is picking up on hormone changes and just being protective, but it is not nice for other people and quite stressful for me. He is still very well behaved with my boyfriend. :wall2:

I was just wondering has anyone else had similar experiences? How did you over come these problems? I'm keen to try and stop these problems before they get too bad!

Any thoughts would be gratefully received! :oooo:

Hi hun. congratulations on your pregnancy.

I have worked with dogs in a rescue centre for the last 12 years. I would strongly advise that you see a qualified behaviourist for advice on how to help your dog with his behaviour. Check the website for the Associated of Pet Behaviour Councillors to find someone in your area.

Although he's only barking and growling, that could be enough to intimidate sometime and land him in a world of trouble. Google the Ladder of Aggression which might also help you to recognise some of your dog's more subtle behaviour before he gets to the point of barking and growling.

A behaviourist should also be able to help you prepare your dog for the arrival of the baby too.

Hi Emily,

Thanks for your advice, that is really helpful. I will definitely look up dog behaviourists. I think we will need some help to make sure he is ok.
