I haven't actually told my Doctors surgery that I am pregnant yet, just booked an appointment with a doctor (one I haven't seen before). Do you think if I go in he will still do the same things and refer me to the hospital and give me prescriptions for supplements and what not. I'm afraid he's going to be like why didn't you say when you were booking your appointment. There is a midwife they sometimes get in to the surgery should I have seen her instead?

What suppliments are you after hun???

I am pretty sure your GP will be fine, but there is just not much they can do at this stage. He may check your BP and then refer you on the MW who will contact you in due course.

I just booked into see my GP hun, they refer you to the midwife and they will detail if there is anything in your past history that the midwife might need to know and make sure your taking anything you might need. You've done exactly the right thing x

I am already taking Folic Acid every day but I have heard that Fish Oil and Calcium are also really good to take but when I went to buy some it said on it to get a Doctors opinion first if you are pregnant. So just want to make sure etc and see if he can make me a prescription.

Yeah that's what I was expecting might happen. I can't wait to know the date of my actual booking appointment though. Really exciting.

It's fairly normal to see a GP, but not obligatory, but as Carnat says, they won't do much. They should go through things like what foods to avoid and taking folic acid.

You will then see the midwife for your booking in appointment, usually between 8 and 10 weeks, who usually arranges the scans etc.

Fish oil like Cod Liver Oil should be avoided because Of the high levels of vitamin A.

My fertility specialists recommended the pregnacare range. I started the conception ones at the beginning of my cycle and have now swapped to the dual ones with Omega 3 capsules. These are definitely safe.

I think a pregnancy multi vitamin will be fine hun??

Not sure you can get those on prescription!

I know what you mean about the booking in appointment though and I have mine tomorrow and am so freaking excited!

My doc did not want to see me! The receptionist told me to ring back at 8 weeks! Hey carnat enjoy your booking appointment. I had mine yesterday. Xxx

Hey girls,

all went well. Doctor asked if Congratulations were in order and when I said yes we were trying for 6 months he said so the father is still around? Like he was shocked? Probably my area lol. He then made sure to tell me that almost half of all pregnancies don't make it past the first trimester which I said I understand.

He took my Blood Pressure, took my height and weight and when he asked about cramps etc I said I was having some painful period like ones on and off he had me lie down and he felt my belly.

Asked if I was OK with a certain hospital (its right across the road from the surgery and where I live) and then asked if I was taking Folic Acid etc and said thats all I needed to be taking.

Asked my LMP and if I had calculated my Due Date etc.

Should be hearing from the surgery soon as to when my Booking in Appointment is :D Excited.

Glad it went well x

I've literally just got my booking in appointment in the post. The midwife is coming to our home, which is a surprise! I assumed I'd have to go into the clinic for it.

Hi ChloeNat, glad it all went well for you today, I finally got around to phoning my surgery on Tuesday very excitedly I asked if I could have a booking in appointment with the mw and I was told to collect a wee bottle and forms from the desk and that results won't be in 'til Wednesday the 4th of April so that was a right royal anticlimax I'm all disappointed now got to sit and wait so more. Take care xx
