Hi everyone this is my first post in the long term ttc board, we have now been ttc for over 12 months neither of us has been to the doctor about ttc but we feel now that we need to do something as we have tried everything, CBFM, fertileaid but still ttc. We havent told anyone we are trying and worried about going to local doctors surgery where family also go and worried about how long we would have to wait then for testing etc so we keep thinking about paying private to have the tests done at fertility clinic. just dont know what is for the best so any advice appreciated

I went after 10 months and they referred me for blood tests and hubby for sperm analysis. I'd see your go and get the ball rolling, if they say no go private but my gp was brilliant. I got preg on 13th cycle naturally but am pleased we had the tests.

You shouldn't have to wait too long for the initial tests, I had my first blood test about two days after going to the doctors and then my first scan a month later. I would get the first lot of tests done on the nhs if you can. They can be quite pricey I've heard if you go private but if funds isn't an issue for you and you aren't happy with what you hear from the nhs then go for it. Your family being registered at the same gp shouldn't make any difference as your investigations should be totally confidential. I understand what you mean about possibly meeting people there though, ours is a small village doctors and everytime I go there is someone I know in the waiting room. Not met any family there yet though and noone has asked why I'm there and I've not told. If people want to jump to their own conclusions then they can. I would never ask anyone why there were at a doctors, if people want to tell you they will.

I would go through the doctors for now. if you see family at the surgery, they won't know why you're there, you could have an answer ready in advance for if they ask why you are there.
Its very expensive to go private, we have to pay £225 for each consultation so works out quite a lot. My investigations were started pretty soon after going to GP but it is of course up to you xx

thanks for replys, I have decided to make appointment with doctor xx
