Hi Everyone,

Apologies in advace for the moany post!

So we told my mum and dad and my boyfriends mum our news at the weekend. We're only about 7 weeks along but we were so excited we couldn't keep it secret and we told them early with our first child too.

Their reaction was "oh we thought that was why we'd been invited over for dinner"

Erm.......am I being a spoilt drama queen or is that reaction a bit underwhelming?? Is this just the way it is with second babies? Are they not as exciting as firsts??

They did go on to say congrats but I just expected a bit more?? Maybe a hug and oh thats fantastic news? I still feel a bit down about it really

My in laws just said you'll have your hands full when we told them about number 2. For this one number 3 my mil said I thought so as Claire is very spotty! Charming hey! Plus the spots had been around since before ovulation so not sure if I should be offended lol

I did find that everyone was a lot less excited abut number 2 and felt alone with talking about it as no one seemed interested. So yeah I would say it's normal for subsequent pregnancies, but it does get better once baby is here and my in laws have probably been more hands on with my 2nd than the 1st xx

Its your news. You will be most excited by it
And 2nds won't be as exciting as firsts for them
Also perhaps its a hint that you don't invite them for dinner often enough lol
It is an underwhelming response though x

Well no one guessed we were having our 2nd but I admit I would have liked a more enthusiastic response! My MIL said "oh, no!"when we told her. My mum did a slightly better job of looking enthusiastic but it was still clearshe was a bit stunned and worried how we would cope with a small age gap. They soon warmed up to the idea and got excited about it though. Now we have to tell them all we are expecting our 3rd with an even smaller gap, lol.

I got a worse response from my family and I'm expecting my first! My mum looked very disappointed and just said oh I wondered how long it'd be. My sisters were happy, but my fil was over the moon!

Haha no we probably don't invite them round very much (well not together) so guess they were suspicious from the start!

My boyfriends dad is thrilled so I guess he makes up for the rest of them!

Just section hopping with my story that will make you all feel better first time I got an eggo preggo we told MIL and she looked at my DH and said, and I quote 'are you sure it's yours?'..... I was utterly dumbfounded..... it still shocks me to this day! Some people just don't seem to be able to take this kind of announcements in person lol!!!

That's awful.

But yeah I think some people just aren't good with these announcements and how to handle them. We had similar when we announced we were getting married.

My dad said 'already'! And my MIL 'I knew you'd have another one but didn't think it would be this soon'! DD was 23 months when we broke the news to them! I'm not expecting a good reaction when we tell them there's another one on the way!

It's just awful when you get an awful response to news your so excited to share...especially to those your close to. When me and my DH told my FIL we were expecting our youngest (my 4th, but our first together) his first response was "so I take it you've paid all your debt off then?"....what that had to do with him I'll never know...lol x

My mil said. "But can you afford it?" Not the worst reaction ever but a little odd, I think!

Slightly off topic but when I told my mum that our first was a girl after our scan she said "awww no, I wanted a boy!" Now THAT really pissed me off!

Some people just struggle with the word "congratulations".

FIL said to us/OH : ' ohh so u cant even afford a pint down the pub with me tonight but ur having another baby....'

Shut up mate!
Its called not wasting sodding money!!!!!
The 1st time we told him with my 1st pregnancy his exact words whilst i was sat next to my oh ' so u agree with this? Did she come off the pill and tell u? '

SHE!!! Who the eff is SHE!!!
And no i didnt trick ur darling son and come off my pill without consulting him 1st.

Luckly my mum cried with happiness! :) xx

Omg
Im glad ive only been greeted by happy open arms!

My OH told my mother in law, she cried and hugged him. When I went to hug her she gave me a cold face and kept her arms either side and brushed past me. Since then she's been asking numerous people if I've "tricked" my OH into it, she doesn't speak to me now. Lol I know your pain. If you and your OH are excited then that's all that matters :) screw anyone else xx

Makes me feel slightly better that it wasn't just my mum that was unhappy! The funniest thing my FIL said to my OH was oh well least we know there's lead in your pencil!! Nearly cried with laughter! Xx

I know the feeling, my parents were over the moon, my husbands dad just said 'oh' and we still haven't had a congratulations yet, he doesn't really talk about it - but then we hardly see him and he just pops his head in to see his grandson when it's convenient for him. When we told him we were expecting a girl , and my son shouted 'daisy is in mammys tummy' he turned his face and said 'I hope your not calling IT daisy ?' ... Well you can imagine how I felt !!

Everyone can just sod off !!

Cc

When I told my mum (after her pestering me as to why I had a green tint to my face & felt really sick) she walked away from me and didn't speak to me for 5 weeks! She only started speaking to me when my dad asked her why she was acting strange & she burst into tears, told him I was pregnant (which came as a huge relief to him & he was convinced she was having an affair!!) & that she hadn't taken the news well and hadn't spoken to me for 5 weeks. He was furious, went absolutely mental at her and dragged her round to our house to apologise! Luckily she was brilliant after that & was a great birthing partner and an even better grandma!
OHs parents where so excited. His dad still kisses me on the top of my head and says "thank you for my beautiful granddaughter" everytime we see them lol!!

My parants were very happy and excited.... Does help that this is going to be their first grandchild and that my mom has been pestering us for well, since we got together, to make sure she would get a grandchild, so yeah, she is over the moon.

My DH told his mom and her reaction was totally like, ok... my DH really just needed to be able to talk to someone as well, it is our first and he needed some advice which he definatly did not get! Feel sorry for him, but he is doing very well now. Guess having a 6th grandchild is not that big a deal?

My Dad also did his typical advice 'how you going to aford it, where you going to live' etc... he is rather protective and to be honest, he seemed more happy then worried which was a great suprise for me as I was really dreading him telling me off for not having my life in complete order yet (he really is of the type get a career/house/money first then think about kids, but I do not want to by grey by the time I start having to run after kids!!!)

Wow some of you have had tough reactions! My family and friends are over the moon we kept it more quiet this time until 12 weeks although quite a few people said "thought so as you haven't been drinking....." I am not an alcoholic lol!!
I think people forget that every pregnancy is different and you get a bit of "oh you've done this before" attitude xx
Its your news and as long as you are excited that is what matters!
