Dexter

[Hoping for no2]

My oh is really keen on the name dexter but I'm not so sure. I quite like the name but can't stop thinking about the TV programme when I hear it. I don't want people to think we've named our baby after a fictional serial killer!! What do you think? Really struggling with a boys name and only 4 weeks to go. We've decided on Isla for a girl but feel its another boy! X

It's funny because a lot of people say that about the name Dexter but it has never made me think of the TV show even though my OH loves it! I think it's a cute name and I love Dex as a nickname

i am not fan of this name. and i surely think about that TV serial killer when i hear Dexter i would not call my son Dexter for sure. what about other names?

We had Dexter as our boys name. I have never seen the TV show but the amount of people that made reference to the name when we told them our 2 choices. If you like it don't listen to anyone.

Personally I think its a fab name. Not at all common and not one that will be overly used. Xx

My boy was almost a Dexter! I just wasn't brave enough to go with it and Dexter became Isaac!

From the moment we found out we were having a boy we loved dexter as it's a good strong name and we don't know anyone called dexter or with a baby dexter. As we have liked it for such a long time we are slowly going off it a little! Having to come up with new names now and it's proving to be a nightmare...
It is a lovely name though good luck xxxx

I loved that programme!! I have Dexter on my baby name list, but not because of the show, purely because it's a really cute name! Love it!

Dexter is on our name list. We both loved the tv show but I loved the name anyway. He only killed bad guys he wasnt all bad himself so I dont care if people think of the tv show! Haha

My little boy is Dexter, it's a strong name and suits him wonderfully. People do make reference to the series but I'm sure they're mature enough to not think he actually was named after a serial killer.

I've never seen the series.
When I hear dexter I think of dexter Fletcher or dexter huxtable. Maybe that's a generation thing though?

I LOVE the name Dexter but there are so many associations with it, poindexter which means nerd, the TV show about the serial killer as people have said, Dexter's Laboratory (that kids show).

But it was also the name of the main character in One Day by David Nicholls - that lovely book and film. So it's not all bad. Haha.

I'm sure with every name someone can think up positive and negative associations. But yes, I hope I can convince my hubby to put it on our boys name list

I dont see the big deal. Yes hes a serial killer. But hes a nice one, he only kills bad guys. Plus its only a tv show. Its not like it's real life!

Haha poindexter is actually what we call my son when he comes out with something ridiculously nerdy (which he does often!) and he loves wearing bow ties too haha!!!!!!
