Stanley is coming up to 5 weeks now but still spends most of the day asleep. And I mean most, he's awake maybe 3/4 hours.

Left to his own devices he'd doze all the time, I try and stimulate him, but he just gets grouchy and goes back off. I wonder if he lies awake all night

Should I be worried or does he just take after mum and is a bit lazy?

No, I wouldn't be worried at all. I think this is normal for newborns, he will soon start to be more awake during the day.

Isaac was 5 weeks prem and he slept for the first 8/9/10 weeks just the same. It was a revelation to see him awake!

Thankyou, know I'm a bit paranoid

It's just my mum criticised me a little the other day for sitting cuddling him in quiet and says I should be singing/talking/playing with him all the time.

I do try and do it but he gets grumpy! Just want to do the right thing, you all know what it's like :)

Hi

I think most babies are like this at that age , Kiara was and she sleeps thorugh the night and has a nap thorugh the day now so dont worry :)

I wouldnt worry hun, that sounds normal! Stanley will stay awake more over the next few weeks. Newborns enjoy simple stimulas, like touch, smiles, hearing your voice etc, you dont have to be doing much else!

Louie is just the same, i read in one of my many baby books that a newborn baby sleeps 18 hours out of 24 hours

thats a lot of sleep!!!
when Louie is awake its like 'quick everyone hes awake, have a look at him' no one sees them awake for ages!!!

alastair sleeps alot too, much seems to be awake alot in the morning which is nice but them sleeps for the rest of the day, which atm i think is ok cos then i get to speand time with sophie :D

make the most of it hun... ellis has 4 naps a day but will not go off on this own now and needs bloody rocking and walking up and down the room!!
