So last week i started taking the pill again and its got me so depressed, it happened when i was 16 and first started the pill (its a side effect) its hard enough to be 16 without depression - - my mum made me go to the doctor when she found my diary and he just said its depression a side effect wait it out. . . i was fine after three months
But three months is a very long time when your so sad...
So thought after been fine during pregnancy and everything i thought i had outgrown the way my body reacts to hormones (long story i had vasivagal syncope until i was 19 where you pass out due to hormones) but i was fine when my hormones changed when i was pregnant and after labour. so thought i would be fine to go back on the pill... after 4 days i feel like shit im so miserable and crying all the time completely off sex which is not like me at all.
So me and DH agreed im stopping the pill and not going back on it - i cant do three months with a newborn like this. SO i want to know

What are you ladies going on when or if you do? and what have you been on and how did you find it? i want to have some opinions on different contraception so i can go to my doctor and ask them for it. I also want another baby in about three years and it took a year to catch on with Alice so nothing that will stop me getting pregnant next time. thank you and sorry if my thread is messed up so is my mind at the minute :S xxx

Awwwww :hugs: I'm sorry it's not been good for you sweetie but I think you and DH have defo made the right decision to come off the pill.

I'm kinda stuck on contraception at the moment. BF obviously limits your options but I had real problems with both the coil and mirena (lots of pain and ended up in surgery because of the mirena) so DH and I decided there is absolutely no way I'm getting either of them put in. I was thinking maybe the mini pill but the pill has in the past made my periods last forever and given me anaemia. I'm also not great at remembering to take it so with such a small window, I'm not sure how effective it would be. Condoms would be sensible but being a typical man - DH refuses as he 'doesn't like them'! MEN!

So currently just going down the exclusive BF root, I've done a bit of research and if done in a certain way, BF can be around 98% effective as contraception... HOWEVER there is definitely conflicting advice on this and one of my sisters got pregnant 3 months after her first when she was BFing. In any case, I would be more than happy to pregnant again so I'm happy to try our luck with BF and if DH is concerned he should learn to like condoms then lol!

:hugs:

Im stuck for what to use atm as i dont want to make it permanent not having anymore and im petrified of needles so the implant/injection are out of the question.

So for us its a toss up of condoms/the pill or the coil

Ive been on Cilest pill on/off since i was 16, never had any problems with it and caught pretty much straight away with all 3 kids after coming off it too,

Have you ever tried a diff type of pill? Not all of them agree with us the first i was on was called Microgynon and omg it was horrible xx

Was it the mini pill or the combined pill that made your periods last forever? These days we call the mini pill the progesterone-only pill and the most common one, Cerazette, can be taken any time in a 12 hour window (just like the combined pill). It's taken every day without a break, so it's even easier to remember. Most women find they bleed erratically on progesterone-only for the first few months, but then it tails off. I had no periods at all on it, which is fine.

The depo injection is also progesterone only, but this does also tend to have erratic bleeding at first, so probably the best thing would be to try the pill first if you were inclined.

@redbear

You don't say if you are breastfeeding or which pill you are taking that is making you depressed, but if you haven't tried progesterone only it might be worth a shot. There's really no way of knowing without trying which of the hormonal methods will affect you in this way.

The best option will depend on your medical history and how long a break you want before you have another child.

You shouldn't need to research this yourself and then go and ask for it. Isn't there a family planning specialist at your surgery who can help you work this out? If not, there must be a free family planning service in your town, they usually run drop in sessions.

I was stuck as to what to do to. I started off on the combined pill at 16 and I found it great, however I should never have been allowed it because of family history but the GPs didn't seem to think it was a problem. I changed to the progesterone only pill but wasn't too keen on it so after 6 months went back to the combined. I was told I couldn't stay on it forever so was advised to have the injection. I found this made me sad - depressed I guess, so I won't have it again. I'm not keen on the idea of the implant or a coil.
I went to the GP last week as I'd stopped BF and wanted the combined pill again but she refused to give it to me because of my family history. She also refused to let me leave without a prescription for the progesterone only pill which I don't want to take again so haven't. We want to TTC again in a year so we'll be using condoms until then - although we're both not keen on them! It's a hard decision to make! X

I have the implant in my arm it lasts for 3 years but u can get it taken out before then xxx

As a bf mum, I'm limited. I refuse to have coil or implant. So hubby and I will be using condoms. We've always used them and both don't mind them. But tbh sex is the last thing on my mind at mo. not done the deed for 11 months.

Thanks guys no im not Bfing so it was just the normal pill (im sorry cant remember the name atm) Its a green packet if that helps, i asked about the patch i had been researching and thought would be a good idea but the doctor said they don't really use them now. I'm not keen on the coil and scared of needles etc maybe its condoms for us even tho we don't like them. Thanks for the advice any peoples opinions help xx

How about the implant in the arm or injection? It's in the bum cheek so you won't see the needle. Although I'd understand if you still wouldn't like it. Just the thought of needles makes me feel queasy.xx

im using the implant, it amazing :-D no worries for 3years! im so forgetful so the pill would be out of the question for me lol x

I may try the injection but will have to find out what hormones send me funny and if they are in the injection because i would be the same for months until it wore off. I know im scared of the implant but im going to look it up and see what the operation is first and if i could cope! x

Its a needle to numb the area then another needle to place the implant in your arm, over in minutes and to take it out it is a needle to numb the area and then a small cut and it is then easily removed from your arm whenver your ready for it to be taken out x

ive had 3 over the years and thought they were great but im not getting another one til im done having kids cos i think its a waste to get it for just 1 yr. i might look into the pill as ive never had anything other than the implant or condoms lol

With the injection, we warn that it could take a while for fertility to return after stopping it, so it may not be what you want. Most methods we've discussed are progesterone only, so I would suggest you try the progesterone only pill I mentioned Cerazette first to see if that causes the low mood as you can easily stop it. if it didn't then you'd probably be safe to look at one of the longer term options.

Thank you little angel i will look into the different type of pill, i dont know what im going to do if that is the cause as most contraception has that in. I am looking into male contraception and they are at stage three (the last stage ) of the medical trials... roll on the male pill he can put up with this shit!! x

I have tried numerous pills and coils over the years and struggled with erratic bleeding, headaches and bad skin so am going for the implant this time. I have to start taking a type of medication for my arthritis as the pregnancy made it worse and this medication causes spontaneous abortions so I need to make sure I do not get pregnant again. I thought the implant was probably the best way to do this.

Nothing works for me I have an allergy to condoms I got pregnant on the implant and had a mc whilst on the pill. Hope you find something x
