So I was on microgynon for 14 years before stopping to have Mia. It completely killed my sex drive for about the last 3 years of taking it which I didn't realise it was the pills fault until i stopped taking it. Then i was like a randy teenager again lol!!! it also took four months to get out of my system and to have my first period.
Anyway I obviously don't want to go back on the pill but hubby can't stand condoms! My options after speaking with the doctor are the copper coil as it has no hormones or the mini pill micronor (apparently it doesn't stop ovulation so has less effect on libido). This is the old mini pill as opposed to cezarette.
I've been reading up on the side effects and don't like the sound of it but I'm also not too keen on the idea of a coil.

Your experiences of both would be appreciated!!!

Also just to add I'm yet have my first period since having Mia 10 weeks ago, I breastfed for 2 weeks so I assume that would have delayed things a bit. How long is it before you normally get a period?

Thanks in advance! Xx

I've not long stopped taking micronor after being on it about two years, I tried about 6other kinds of pills and had terrible side effects from nausea and mood swings to heavy bleeding way beyond normal so eventually settled on micronor, my only bad experience from it was that I fell pregnant while taking it! I didn't miss any, wasn't sick or on antibiotics or anything else but no one told me micronor is slightly less effective than most other contraception, 97% ish when taken correctly. it's also not normally advised in women under 30, I seem to remember the doctors telling me it can slightly raise the risk of something?

Here is a page telling you how common the side effects actually are, doesn't sound that bad! http://www.nhs.uk/medicine-guides/pages/MedicineSideEffects.aspx?condition=Contraception&medicine=Micronor&preparation=
I've not long picked up my prescription for microgynon again, but still not taken it yet despite already having had my first period. My next one's due this week so will probably start it then, just hesitant cos I hate being on the pill :( I tried everything though, different pills and even the patch, needle phobia so injection and implant is out and I really don't want a coil of any kind. Hubby doesn't like condoms (plus we'd end up never using them anyway) but he also doesn't want baby number 2 for a few years so I'm stuck going back on the pill!! I'm just delaying it as long as possible I suppose :( xx

I got the mirena coil fitted when my boy was 9 weeks old. Iv had it for 3 weeks now and no problems so far.
Years ago I had the implant removed due to hormones, but I spoke it through with the doctor and she explained both coils to me. And I went for mirena and she agreed it was a good choice.
I like the coil because she said they will take it out at any time should I want to ttc. And also my fertility will return to normal as soon as its removed - they do advise you to have 1 natural cycle tho...
Never ever before I had my LO had I contemplated the coil, but it seemed to suit me best.
What's the reasons you wouldn't like a coil??xxx

I'm trying to get the implant fitted but my docs keep cocking up my appointments :wall2:

I wanted something that was instantly reversable but didn't want the coil.

I don't think the implant is instantly reversable xx

Hmmm, my doc said fertility returns to normal as soon as its taken out. But then she also said she would fit it for me today and then took the day off...

I didn't have a period till 4months after I had it removed xxx

I had the implant removed last month and AF returned just under 4 weeks later (and didn't have AF in the 2 years that I had the implant). Will def. have the implant again next time!

I'm not sure why really!! That's what I had in my mind then the dr started going on about risk of infection and ectopic pregnancies with coils and it made me a bit wary!! I'm thinking I will go for the copper coil tho, I really don want to mess with my hormones again.
Still haven't had a period yet!!! Mia is 10 weeks 2 days, wonder when my body will sort itself out!! X

I think doctors have to tell you the risks, but when the doctor explained to me it's really low. Guess everything has a risk factor. And everyone is different. Iv heard great things about the copper coil. Few of my friends have it. And seen people on here recommend it.xxx

I had an awful experience with the implant.

I had it put in in Feb 08, I bled all day every day for 6 months straight. The doc finally gave me some pills which stopped the bleeding and had no period after that.

I had the implant out Feb 2011 and still to this day have not had a period since.

I am pregnant now, but when I went to the doc a few weeks ago cos I was feeling lousy, I asked him if I could be pregnant and he said not a chance because I had had no period for almost 2 years since having the implant taken out.

We weren't planning a pregnancy, but we're so lucky it even happened because of all that.

If you want to have another baby in the future, I honestly wouldn't go for the implant, because for me at least, my fertility didn't come back for nearly 2 years after having it out.

I won't be having contraception after this one (hubby is having a vasectomy), but if I did, it certainly wouldn't be the implant.

I've gone with Microgynon30. Hated what the Depo did to my body and vowed never again. Just hope I'm ok with the pill as sometimes with obstetric cholestasis it can cause u to itch when taking the pill! or so I'm lead to believe. Xx
