Hi everyone, I’m a bridesmaid next week for my friend and 6 weeks pregnant tomorrow.

I cannot get away with my hair as it is just now, my hair is dark but my roots are so grey. I was holding off dying it so it’s fresh for the wedding but then I found out I’m pregnant.

I already have a spray tan booked too.

Does anyone know if I’m ok to do these things? X

Your hair is fine to have done. I'd maybe skip the tan due to the unknown risks of inhaling it?

I've had my hair done twice since being pregnant at a salon and it's fine.

Yeah I think I’m gonna skip the spray tan and do my tan myself.

I usually dye my hair myself. I used ammonia free hair dye in my last pregnancy but avoided the first tri then only done it twice over the next 6 months. Do you think I’d be ok with ammonia free? I can go to a salon if it comes down to it, I just usually don’t as SIL is hairdresser. She’s just had a baby though so I don’t like to take up much of her time, quick trim then colour myself x

NHS direct suggests making sure you're well ventilated. Leave dye for the minimum amount of time and obviously use gloves x

Thanks Netty, I always do those things anyway (bar the minimum time) x

Yeah when I home dyed mine I left it on aaaaages. Maybe in this case just use the minimum time?
Or go to a salon... Their dyes aren't as harsh as home dyes x

Yeah I’ll maybe do that if I can find the time! Thanks x

Can you do a dark henna dye? For your own peace of mind? Either way you’ll be fine! I honestly wouldn’t worry at all. Have fun!

Thanks kholl, where do you get henna dye? I’m thinking just ammonia free semi permanent x

Henna can, at times, make people throw up allergies and you’re more prone to that in pregnancy. It also causes trouble with other dyes should you wish to go back. Another thought about home vs salon is the fumes in the salon are likely to be higher than at home, where there’s only one of you. Saying that, there’s plently of pregnant hairdressers out there. Do what makes you feel most comfortable xx
