hello ladies, this is my first post as i've been lurking in the background reading lots and taking it all in :) This is my first baby due on 6th November, very excited and terrified at the same time lol

I have a question that i'm hoping some of you may be able to help me out with or have some experience off. I had my cervix measured at 17 weeks as I had a cone biopsy a few years back and they measured it at 2.2 cms, they will be measuring again at 21 and 25 weeks. The consultant was referred to at the time of my appointment but I never actually saw him and nothing was said at all to me by the midwife. I'm worried that its a little bit of the short side? I don't like googling it as i don't want to get duff gen but everything seems to point that it should be over 3cms especially at this early stage. any info appreciated x

Hi hun,

I am due the day before you and at my 12 week scan my cervix was measuring 3.8cm's.

At least they are monitoring you which is a good thing? It's when you don't know about something that it could become a problem!

xxxxxxxxxxxx

Yeah i think the problem is them not telling me anything then I want to get it off of 'dr google' as hubby puts it and then I worry lol a little bit of communication goes a long way lol

Oh sweetie,

Do not Google!!

My friend has a cone biopsy after her first baby but before her second, when she got preggers again she regularly had to have her cervix length checked and all was fine!

I am sure it's nothing to worry about

xxxxxxx

Hi hun,

My cervix was 3cm at my scan, it should be about 4/5cm so I had another at 24 weeks where it was the same and I will be scanned again at 28 weeks...
I too had treatment on my cervix resulting in it being thin, they will keep an eye on it and if there is no change they will prob leave it after my 28 week but yours is slightly smaller again so they might keep an eye on you for longer depending if it changes or ot.
if they have concern they will tell you to have complete bed rest or they will recommend you have some stitches in your cervix which they remove nearer the end of your pregnancy! Not very nice but you might not need that, see how your next scan goes x

Thank you for your reply, I think that's the answer I was expecting to hear but needed to hear it from someone else, fingers crossed at my 20 week scan it doesn't get any smaller. Bed rest is my kind of hell as I'm pretty active even with bump lol but things will definately change if thats the outcome.

I know how u feel hun! Bed rest would of ruined me as running my business cant go along side bed rest!! Whens your next scan?X

Would get to watch some amazing daytime tv though....or not lol I've got a very active border collie too so it'd be throwing the ball from the sofa lol. Next scan's on the 25th so i'll be 21 weeks, think i'm more frustrated that the consultant was in the other room and didn't speak to me about it, gotta love faceless consultations eh!

I know and Im a google queen so well done fo avoiding that! Fingers crossed for your next scan, I did read a lot of women with this go full term and need to be induced!!! x

Hi hun
If I was you I would ask to speak to consultant about cervical length as I have been told that anything under 2.5 before 20 weeks would be a concern. In this pregnancy , I'm 15 weeks I've already had 2 cervical scans, first at 12+2 which measured 4.6 and again at 14+2 when it was 5.7. Have another next week. It's not only the length they should be measuring but also for any funnelling. Hope they keep close eye on you x

Thanks mrsL84, good to hear what other people have been told. I'm a pretty chilled out mum to be but this is worrying me especially as I don't know what to expect with this being first one x

Yeah it's good to be aware, I'm guessing you are still classed as low risk? Don't want to worry you I'm sure your be fine but just make sure they watch you, personally id be trying take it easy as possible, in my last pregnancy last year I suffered with incompetent cervix, mine started funnelling and shortening at 21 weeks with premature rupture of membranes and I spend 3 weeks in hospital, I also had no idea about my cervix until it all started going wrong. In this pregnancy they have classed me as high risk. X

I'm under consultant care because I had some treatment on my cervix after an abnormal smear test back in January (I was actually 3 weeks pregnant at the time but didn't know!). But I've not had any scans or anything on my cervix yet and my consultant appointment isn't until 28 weeks! A bit worried now after reading this thread as you all seem to have had scans and monitoring much earlier on. I don't know if I should maybe speak to my mw!

Good luck hun I hope you get good news hun, fingers crossed for you :) xxx
