I always start af with 1-2 days of brown spotting before the red.

Would you consider cd 1 to be when the spttong starts or the red?

Ok, so now I've been googling this and am getting worried that brown spotting before period is a sign of something not being right (hormonal imbalance e.g)

Surely is normal...

Is anyone of you experiencing this?

done some more reading: Brown spotting before af can be caused by low progesteron levels

I get brown spotting before AF. Have had it now for 3 days, so think I'm out for this month and the witch is on her way. I didn't realise it was anything wrong though, I just thought it was 'old' blood. Hmmmm... I'll be stalking this thread to see what any other ladies come up with- we're bound to find an answer on here!

I didn't have this in my 20's. It's something that has started in my 30's so it could be due to a change in hormone levels for me.

If I understand it correctly it happens because of slower af flow, thus there is time for the blood to get oxygenated hence the brown colour. (Flow rate is regulated by hormones i guess).

My periods are very regular and I've only been ttc for 2 months so it remains to be seen if this spotting influences fertility.

How long have you been ttc-ing Emily?

I have brown spotting, then will start proper!
The brown spotting for me is only about an hour or two before "real thing".
I've never really thought anything of it - now I'm worried!
Google here I come!!!

:) to google or not to google ...

no way i'd be worried if I were you kmg :)

prob no need for me to worry either.

I've had this spotting for about 2 years now. It started when I had my Copper coil put in and I just thought it was something to do with that. Had my coil removed in June but still getting the spotting. It actually starts and lasts a bit longer now aswell

Been ttc for 3 months this month, so in the grand scheme of things not for very long. Feels like forever though! Well AF arrived today so I had the brown spotting for 2 days and this morning.

I have got irregular cycles though, not by much mind you- this month 26 days, last month 33 days, month before that 28 days. I did an OPk this month on day 14 when I thought I would be ovulating and it was very faint so I am not sure exactly when I ovulate either- which is not very helpful when you only have a short window of opportunity to ensure everything is in the right place at the right time! I have only done that one OPk as I didn't have any more but I might well end up using them to give me a better idea of what my body is up to.

I am only 24 so I don't think this brown spotting stuff is an age thing and I have never had a coil either, so I don't think its anything to do with that. Eeeeek... to google or not? Could end up finding answers or just end up scaring/ worrying myself to death!! Verdict- not to google... yet!

Sorry about your af :(

I've started using opk this month, I bought a whole pack online. I think one has to do the opk the first month without counting on it to be helpful, more just to get a feel for one's cycle and how the opk works. My plan is to poas cd 8 - 18.

If I don't get a bfp next time we ttc i'll go and have my hormones checked. i'll let you know what the gp tells me about the spotting.

Baby dust to you
:dust: :dust:

Thanks, I would be interested to know what the gp says about it.

I don't think it will be long before I am e-bay bound and purchasing OPKs.

FX for a BFP for you.

I have decided I AM GOING TO HAVE A BFP IN SEPTEMBER, end of story!!

Kinda completely contradicted myself in that last thread, as if I get a BFP in September (as I have decided I will!!) then I will not need OPKs!!

Ah hey.... it's been a long day!!

hehe!!
