Well I thought I'd do my birth story while I have a spare half hour...

Woke up on the morning of Friday 30th with a heavy feeling in my stomach, but I thought I'd just held my per in too long overnight lol. I'd promised to take OH to Costa for breakfast as it was payday and he was bored so that was about 9am. The heavy feeling was getting a bit painful and I was rocking back and forth but it just felt like I needed to poo!
I couldn't go when I got home and after half an hour of trying fell into bed exhausted - it felt like I was going to poo myself but couldn't :/ so I fell asleep until maybe 12 when my friend came to see me.
I ended up lying on my living room floor talking to her cos I was in pain and that seemed to help, she asked if I thought I could be in labour and I told her no I was just constipated. Anyway the pain was in my back a lot and she offered to run me a bath before she left so I said yes. I was also feeling really sick.
As soon as I got in the bath I had my first real contraction and I knew straight away what it was. Got OH to sit on the toilet and time them - they were about 4 mins apart and lasting 30 seconds.
After a while I sent OH away got on the toilet and finally had a massive clear out (gross) while having contractions still and shouting to OH to time them lol. i also had my bloody show.
Rang hospital but they told me to hang on as it was my first and I would probably be a while yet. So I waited til they were about 2 mins apart and rang again, they were getting really painful and the hospital told me to come in.
So me, OH and my mum (my other birth partner) arrived at the hospital at about 4pm where i was examined and found to only be 2cms :( but the midwife said she could tell i was in pain so I didn't have to go home. She gave me two diacodeine (?) and left to let me get on with it.
2 hours later the drugs had done nothing for the pain at all (the back pain was horrific as baby was leaning back or something) and had just left me reality stoned as well as slowing my conttactions to 5-6 mins and I was told I was going to go home. It was the end of that midwife's shift but she told me she was on the following night and would probably deliver my baby then!
I was in such bad pain that it took me 20 minutes to get back to the car :( we drove home and OH made me some food but I hardly ate as I felt so sick.
At twenty to eight I suddenly felt this ovrwhelming urge to push which terrified me as i had always heard not to as if i wasn't fully dilated it would hurt me and the baby. I started screaming for OH to help me but it was out of our control and with the first push I felt my waters go.
The hospital told me to come straight back in so after changing my pants and trousers and putting a pad on we drove back, I was screaming from trying not to push but my body was doing it anyway and I could see my bump changing shape with every contraction.
I got wheeled up to the exact same room I'd been in before, and was examined immediately by a new midwife. She told me I was fully dilated and to start pushing with the next contraction! my mum was called but the midwife said she probably wouldn't make it which really upset me. However I just kept pushing, it felt really good as it no longer hurt just felt like pressure and an urge. Then the midwife said i still had some waters intact but she could see meconium in them and asked if she could break them, i said yes so now all of a sudden I was sat/laid in a huge pool of poo, blood and waters lol.
My mum walked in about 2 minutes before Cathy's head came out and watched with OH as she emerged (even though I'd told them not to!) Cathy was born at 8:33pm and plonked on my tummy for a few seconds before being whisked away to check she was OK and get the meconium out of her mouth. The midwife cleaned me up and announced I had no tears yay :) baby Cathy was perfect and weighed in at 7lbs 6oz.
My birth experience was fantastic but sadly my aftercare was lacking, nobody showed me how to latch her to my breast til 3:30am after she had been grizzling for 3 hours :( and I wasn't taken to the post-natal ward til 5:30am by which time I was beyond tired and unable to sleep.
We had to stay 24 hours because of the meconium but we were allowed to take her home Saturday night which was great :) and started to become a proper little family!

Congratulations x such a shame about aftercare, I've heard a few people say this!

Aww congratulations Hun x

Massive congratulations hun...lovely story to read. Sorry to hear about the aftercare for you though. Hope you are getting on well at home :) xxx

Apparently they had a lot of deliveries that night which is why I was left for so long but it was still horrible for me, i actually didn't have a clue what to do with her and was in shock from the birth :( and I suppose as a woman who had already delivered safely they had other ladies who needed them more xx

Welcome to the world baby Cathy!!!

Lovely birth story hun, it all progressed so quickly for you??

I hated my aftercare - the ward was dark (they didn't put lights on at all) and it was so busy. James started to cough up some mucus at one point and I panicked and pressed my "call MW" button. It took a few minutes for anyone to come and she literally poked her head round, said she'd be back and went?? My Sister was with me so I made her go to the MW station and get a MW as bub continued to cough up fluid... turns out it is normal for them to do that BUT I didn't know?? Grrr... I'll never go back to that hospital.

On the upside though, the negatives do fade!!! Now we're home and settled the long labour and horrible ward are becomming a distant memory!

xxxxxxx

Oh that's awful Nat :( I would have panicked too and its shocking that they didn't warn you it could happen :(

Absolutely same here! In fact the whole birth is becoming like a dream which is why I wrote it down before I forgot - and I didn't even have any drugs? Weird xx

I missed this, sorry! Well done you! So fast!! (I was 4 days in labour, misery!)

Really glad everything's ok and that you're settling down :)

I saw in another post you say you only get cuddles when she's hungry, Sophia was like that too! She's still a big Daddy's girl, but you will get normal cuddles soon :)

Thanks! I'm so glad it was quick - it was the slow labour that killed me the pushing bit was great! Hope this second one is quicker for you!

Yup - oh and in the night when he sleeps through her crying - but he's going back to work next week and I bet I'll want him back lol! Xx

Aww bless ya, its a shame you didnt recieve the care you should have :(
However your ok and healthy, lets keep fingers crossed them boobies stop hurting soon xx

Congratulations! My aftercare was shocking...and that's being kind so I totally sympathise with you on that!

Congratulations on your little family and good luck with the journey :) x

I've never been in hospital before so I had no idea what to expect but being left alone for 6 hours with a brand new baby was scary as hell - I'd never even changed a nappy before :( thank God I had an easy birth as well otherwise I couldn't have coped xx
