Need your advice ladies!

I'm thinking we'll end up getting a maxi cosi cabriofix with our pram. My question is, do you think it's worthwhile getting a base (provided my car has the bits for IsoFix - need to check!) or not use a base and just use a seatbelt?

I was told in the shop you can do either.

Obviously safety comes first, and a base sounds safer to me. OH said that he read somewhere that it may be safer without one (but I don't know what his source was and need to research this myself). Guy in the shop said that the base units are good if you overturn your car, which I'm hoping is not going to happen!

Thanks for your help.

I would defo go for the base. I can't because my car doesn't have it :( x

We had a silver cross ventura plus car seat and they dont have a base. Which worked fine.

Living on a main road any future babies will have a car seat and a belted in base for quickness.

lol not much help am I? x

I didn't get one as my car didn't have the things to have it. However I wouldnt have brought it anyway. They're just as safe as each other imho. Youre very limited in the number of follow on car seats that fit the bases as well.

It is convenient though, and my mum was very jealous of another woman in the car park who just slotted her car seat in while she faffed around trying to figure out my LOs carseat lol. Although once youve done it once or twice it's so quick to do. I personally felt that £150 seemed alot to spend on something that you don't really need.

Thanks for your responses ladies. I just asked OH what he read and he just said that he read that it's not much safer with a base (I had thought he had said it might be safer without one ) so not necessarily any point.

I do think it sounds nice and easy, just to chair into a base.

I've got an 05 Skoda so not sure at all if I've got the necessary lol.

xx

The one i've got doesn't need Isofix, i've got an old corsa which doesn't have Isofix. Mamas and Papas say that they are equally as safe.

I've got the base for the cabrofix which is belted!
I have a 3 door car, and having the base makes life so much easier! Means I don't have to climb in the back everytime!

After our 12 week scan on Mon my OH decided to investigate in the hospital car park and it would appear we don't have the isofix stuff! Can I ask which belt in base people bought for the maxi cosi cabriofix? This click in and out thing sounds like a good compromise seeing as we don't have the isofix. xx

I need to google what the car bits look like so I can tell if I have it. Complicated this car seat business isn't it? xx

my OH done research on this and is insisting on the isofix, i feel awful coz i didn't really listen to why. if you can get a base then get one hun xx

I can't use either base or isofix in either of my cars so will have to use just the seatbelt.

I've got an isofix base in my car and it's so easy to get LO in and out when he's sleeping. OH has to use the seatbelt to fix the carseat in his car as he doesn't have isofix and it's fairly easy to use but I just find it easier with a base.
We've got a Recaro car seat and the base fits the rear facing car seat we use at the moment and will also fit the next stage car seat when we need to change.

Hi Olive!
We bought the maxi cosi pebble from kiddicare to go with our stokke xplory that we were given. Having tried it in the car with just the seat belt we weren't sure on the fit......went back to kiddicare who said it was safe and showed us how to do it.....however we wanted to consider a base.......My car doesn't have isofix but we knew we could try the maxi cosi easybase2 which u fit with the seat belt only then click the car seat in and out. Kiddicare fit tested it for us and said it was safe- great! We didn't buy it that day as we wanted to get it from mothercare (had lots of gift cards!) so went there only to be told by them that it wasn't safe at all as it showed 'buckle crunch'! They said the seat itself was fine and because I have leather seats in my car suggested a 'neat seat' to reduce any 'sliding' because of the lack of friction. The car seat seems very secure with this and we are happy but was mortified that kiddicare were going to sell us something that was unsafe! Made a complaint but they are sticking by their opinion that it is safe! .......It's very frustrating but there's no way I'd buy the easybase for our car now knowing that mothercare have said it's dangerous! ......Hope it fits in your car safely hun if u do want to get it. Can't beleive what a minefiled car seats are for the consumer and that 2 major retailers can give such conflicting opinions on the same product!

Sorry that turned into a bit of a rant!! lol!

Thanks mum2be. I can't believe that kiddicare would do that!

Am going to get OH to have a look at my car at the weekend. My gut feeling at the moment is to get a base (if we have isofix) as I just think it'll be a lot easier and no faffing about.

Base base base every time, its so much easier & quicker xx

Thanks hun.

I'm now figuring that whatever pram deal I get, I'm going to have to add at least £100 on for base  Typical!
