I was born near the river Axe and love the river of my childhood so much that I would like to get it in to my future childs name somehow. Unfortunately it is a bit of an ugly sounding word!

I came up with Axley as a possible. I don't like Axel. Can you think up some variations for me?

Alaxender (variation of Alexander) Thats all I can think of lol xxx

It sounds like a car part to me.

I did think about Max but then I realised that the whole point of naming him/her after the river would be totally lost, I want it to be more obvious. Maybe it's just too difficult, sigh.......

Doh! I forgot to thank you all though for replying - thanks girls :) xx

Just plain Axen sounds nice I think xx

Hmmm, if you literally want the word axe in the name, then i think you're going to find it hard to find a name that you like that doesn't lose the meaning.

I know you're in to your wiccan stuff so i looked up references to the word Axe in a Wiccan encyclopedia and it said:

Axe is a symbol of power and light - thunder and fire and it produced sparks when it struck something. Then it was a symbol of blood and sacrifice. Then it was a symbol of royal blood.

A double headed axe (also called a Labrys - maybe a name?) was a symbol of matriarchal power and a lunar symbol.

It also symbolised a sacrificial king who stood between the earth and the underworld - if you can find the actual name of one of these kings then maybe you could use that for a baby name?

I don't know if this is literal enough for you though or a bit too abstract.

oh I like Axen girls thats a really good name and so so different xx

Thanks Girls, I've added Axen to the list (the list that will one day see the light of day i hope!) but my OH isnt keen, but then it's not his river! So maybe it wont make the grade or maybe it will get a middle name mention!

But it has been done. I just found out that my niece, who's 2, lives near the river Isis so that's why one of her middle names is Isis, I never knew that! I thought it was after the Egyptian Goddess. So still thinking........

Yay........ feel a little proud of myself now......... still loving Axen !!!! xxxx

axen is nice how about daxen? or daxtor? or axzielia axeer (pronounced axe-zeer)
