Can some ladies help me. As many know I had an emergency section on Saturday after complications. Graces HR was dipping (cord around neck - thankfully not really tight) and her head circumference upon reflection was not in keeping with my pelvis. All in all the doctors and consultant said she was too big for me to deliver naturally. Now I will post a birth story soon - but I'm really quite traumatised s after having my Lily naturally - I just expected this birth to be the same. I know nothing about recovery times, this overhanging belly that have, pains that are normal, why I have a numb stomach (does that go) and anything else which might help me understand and feel ready for the journey I have ahead of me. Thanks in advance for any replies xxx

Congrats on your baby.
I had a crash section with one of my twins so can answer some of your questions.
I hammer the gym, always have and I'm a slim size 10 but can I get rid of that little overhang on the scar? No. Sorry.
I don't know if this is the case for everyone but I have quite a good stomach (I'm a sit up addict) and cannot shift it.
My stomach is numb from my scar to my belly button, also the scar itself is numb. I had mine 4 and a half years ago so I guess that it. It feels horrid when my pants touch it. Sorry again.
Emotionally I did horribly after my section so make sure you talk to someone about your feelings as I didn't and it still effects me to this day.
Congrats again xxx

Hi :) congrats . I had section 13 months ago and was up back to normal in 3 weeks. Keep scar clean and dry honey. My scar is numb now but not belly just literally the scar. Still gets irritated by any clothing sitting on it though. It's not the most pleasant experience but u will feel normal again promise x

congratulations on the birth of your baby.x x

I had a c-section 9 years ago for some of the same reasons. (cord round neck and big head). for the first few days I found it difficult to sit and stand up without great effort. and my stitches felt really tight. also going for a number 2 accredited hell out of me I was terrified I was going to burst the stitches to avoid straining take a laxative or something similar.

I was finally mobile by the end of the first week and by the end of the second week I went for a walk to visit
my nan.

when it was time for the stitches to come out it was really painless and really quick, I honestly expected it to hurt having them out. but the midwife was so fast she had them out with in minutes. as for the hanging belly, as the other ladies have said unfortunately that stays. but I didn't suffer any numbness, I often suffer with itching and the scar some times gets slightly red and irritated.

I actually found the healing process a lot easier than having the section.

hopefully you'll not take long to recover and get to fully enjoy your new baby x x x

I have had 3 sections, 1 emergency and 2 elective. My first was traumatic as I was in labour for days and virtually had his head out, I even had an episiotomy! Then they wanted to dislocate his shoulder to deliver him, all hell broke lose and I was put to sleep and delivered. With him recovery was slow, but I think that was because of the shock of what had happened, the grueling labour etc.

Next 2 were planned and lovely experiences with good recovery.

After having the third I did get numbness in my scar, but only my scar but nothing that ever bothers me. That has also faded with time (12 years ago now) and tbh it really hasn't affected me at all for years. Yes I have a little overhang above the scar, I am a size 14 normally so am curvy/podgy anyway so a little overhang has no effect on me lol. I have always tended to wear "bigger" knickers as well, not huge granny efforts, just not the tiny ones because they do tend to end up on top of your scar and it isn't painful, just bothersome.

I think the main thing is with section recovery, don't do to much. You think your fine and crack on with housework, walking to far etc then when you are in serious pain you realise your not as recovered as you like to think. I also found myself holding my scar for weeks and weeks after everytime I coughed or sneezed as it can jolt and be painful.

Overall I really wouldn't worry about recovery, like I said I have had 3, soon having number 4 and I am fine. Yes I have a slight overhang, but it isn't really noticeable (even in a swimsuit!). Women are always there own worst enemy when looking in the mirror anyway, so most would see a huge flap drooping a foot below your stomach but really it isn't major and not monstrous! lol

The main problem I remember was numbness in my bladder, like no sensation to have a wee, and that lasted about a year with my third! I was told my bladder wall had fused with my abdomen wall during section number 2 and when I had number 3 they had to cut it away which resulted in some loss of feeling. It was weird never feeling, never needing a wee, but because I was aware I just made sure I always popped to the toilet regular to avoid any accidents lol.

I doubt that will happen to you as my bladder problem was due to repeated c sections (scar tissue), certainly not my first.

I honestly think it's not bad at all. I'm not promoting c sections but even if I had a choice I would rather have a section than a natural labour (my family has a history of pelvis problems and my Nan actually died whilst in labour with my Mom due to this so natural labour isn't an option for me). I have watched to many "one born every minute" and the majority of the time it doesn't promote happy labours lol! Looks scary to me and I'm happy the way I'm built haha :D

I'm sure you'll recover fine! :D xxx

I will say though, please don't keep anything bottles up emotionally if you are emotional about what happened.
I found that my emergency section has ruined my sex life, destroyed my confidence and had a terrible effect on me psychologically. I loathe looking at the scar and for a long time would hide it with a flannel in the bath! I wish I'd have talked about what happened sooner, I didn't, I tried to brush it under the carpet. Seek comfort in your family and oh, let them help you to recover (I didn't) and take it easy xxxx

hiya I had an emergency section on the 7th...
I have found goin for little walks and gradually doing more bit by bit has really helped
I am now back to my normal self apart from lifting anything heavy and driving...
I haven't got any numbness no more just my clothes and underwear make my scar itchy sometimes...
my scar is nearly healed completely just waiting for a couple of little scabs to come off so I can start having baths again,
I had the didssolvable stitches and had epidural for the section I wasnt put to sleep,
I had my little Maisie at 22:40 on the fri and was home on the sat as I found getting up out of bed really helped
as far as iv been told the overhang will always be there...
just don't bottle anything up let people know now your feeling
hope you get back to your normal self soon just don't over do it
xx

The overhang thing does get better danni, it will look at it's worst right now with any remnants of baby podge still there too. my scar is now getting really quite raised now, feels like a ridged bridge !! hoping if I fall preg again and have the last section , they may make it tidyer and less prominent... Although saying that noone other than me and oh would ever nottice it, so yours should improve..

i'm 4 weeks post csection tubal op now, although I didn't have the baby to take home this time, i'm feeling a new woman now.. You will turn a corner at 2 weeks, and come on in leeps and bounds after that, just don't overdo it, stand too long, walk too fast, or you will get a setback and have to rest a few days... like someone said, keep it dry , avoid baths till fairly healed esp if you have disposable stitches.

Re the numbness - well I have a numb bikini area, I also lost my left groin area (hugh up next to bikini area), when I had devon, thats got better but still mainly numb. I also have part of my left thigh thats remains numb ! (all connected apparently, down the groin bit). My tum was numb to the belly button, but after just 4 weeks , it's tingly and has come back alot, never quite fully I expect again, but stomach can heal nicely, will work the tum muscles soon too to help.. I can't sleep on left side as the scar sort of hangs or gets caught, and hurts, but maybee cause Ive had 5 now..

If it helps, sex doesn't hurt now atall, and I will be starting on my running machine, (fast walking at first!), at the weekend... to get fit for ttc...

Just you wait, let us know how your doing next week yourll find you in a whole new place hun X

Congrats by the way, on baby Grace (lovely name) bet Lily's chuffed to bits
