I'm looking for advice from mummies who have had a planned section.

I know If I have to go down that route (baby currently breech), that I will be given information but my mind is going into overdrive as all I've been told is I will get another growth scan at 37 weeks and check baby's position, if still breech will be given info, already been given section date tho as consultant said was easier to cancel it than book it.

Anyways, what's the protocol for one? Do they get you in a couple days before for a pre op? I've had abdominal surgery in the past and I was kept in the night before and given medicines etc the surgery following afternoon.
Just wondering how they do it for planned sections. All he's told me is I would get a scan on morning of section to confirm baby position.

Any information will be appreciated :) x

I had a planned c-section at 37 weeks. They went through the consent form a few weeks beforehand at the clinic where I decided I'd go for c-section over induction. At this appointment I also had swabs for MRSA. I had a pre-op appointment a week beforehand. I had to have steroid injections, so went in a whole day before, but otherwise I would have had to go in first thing in the morning on the day. I was given all my pre-op meds in hospital, but I think those can be taken at home the night before. Hope that helps xx

Hi I'm due to have my 5th section in dec, I'm from blackpool an I have to go in on the morning of section at 7am fill out all forms that morning then wait to be called. Once in theatre I have a spinal block then ur birth partner will be allowed in they cover u up so u can't see any of the operation. U don't feel any pain at all just tugging an pulling, it's pretty straight forward if u have any concerns or questions speak to the surgeon they usually pretty good and talk to u all the way through it

I've had one natural birth and 2 planned c-sections. My pre ops were a few days prior. Just a quick chat with the surgeon about what's going to happen, sign some forms, blood test, mrsa test. All that saves time on the day. So in to hospital by 7am the last time. I had to have one last blood test to check my blood was clotting well enough. I was 2nd on the list, so my daughter was born just after 10am.

Thanks for the info ladies, very helpful :).

So im right in thinking I still have time to push for sterilisation before the surgery? I say it like I am defo getting a section although it might not, but I need to prepare my mind for every possible outcome and at moment it's looking like a section depending on his position. I have appt on 26th and he's told me if he's turned and my cervix is favourable then I will be induced if it's not favourable he will keep section date as planned so all could change by 26th....
I told him from moment I found out I was pregnant that if it ever got to stage it was a possible section birth I'd like to be sterilised, it was brushed off and said would discuss if it was to go down that route. Even if it doesn't lead to section I still want to be sterilised.
Just worried I won't have time to get my point across before it happens sort of thing.
Of course I'd love another natural birth. X

I was given a date and told to arrive at 8am to fill forms in, then wait to be called. I was then taken to the op room and given the normal things spinal block and what not, but due to catching a massive flesh eating bug at my previous c section that left me in intensive care they gave me a huge dose of antibiotics aswell just incase.

My doctors tried to get me to have sterilisation with the c section, but i didn't want it! I had never even asked about it and they were pushing it on me lol guess they didn't want me sueing them again haha

Other than that the planned section went perfectly x

have mine booked for september, signed consent forms today and all the risks gone through (poor hubby looked very concerned!) with me etc etc. i was given a prescription for the anti sickness (i think) meds which i get when i go for my pre op - which for me is three days before - one to be taken at 10pm the night before and the other at 7am the next morning. no eating after midnight, and only sips of water thereafter, having to stop this at 7am after taking the last tablet. also had the mrsa swabs done today myself (as someone else above). from what i hear though it is a very calm, almost relaxed procedure and have heard nothing but positive feedback about the section itself. if that is the way to go then i guess that's the way it has to be, baby is in super safe hands as are you.

with regards to the sterilisation, i'm afraid i have no idea and no information or thoughts to share on that as it has never crossed my mind - but if that is something you want, then push for it, absolutely. mention it at every appointment until it is discussed properly with you - they can't brush you off forever. and if you get to a point where you are fed up of asking, be honest and say so! tell them you're not leaving until it is discussed :P xxx
