Hi everyone,

I'm pretty new to this so excuse any mistakes i make. I am currently as the title says 9 weeks and 4 days pregnant with my first baby, it Is very much planned and very much wanted but when I went to the toilet this morning I have noticed some brown discharge when I wipe, sorry for graphic detail. I am becoming increasingly worried and I am so nervous to phone my GP because I know I will end up crying down the phone to the receptionists and they aren't the nicest of people! I am just wondering whether anyone else has experienced this, I am also getting a slight bit of cramping which seems to come and go, it is not constantly there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and will certainly help to put my mind at ease.

Thank you ever so much for any replies.

L dunners.

Hi Hun,

Brown discharge is normal in pregnancy, you only need to worry if it's red and your in a lot of pain.
If you ring your doctors and ask for a call back your doctor may be able to refer you to the epu to check everything is ok

Xx

Hi Ldunners, each pregnancy is unique so spotting may not always be a bad sign, but any changes should be checked out I would ask to be referred to EPU for a scan ASAP to confirm all is ok, try not to worry x

Not trying to scare monger here as all is probably fine but please get yourself checked out. When I had a missed miscarriage the first sign that anything was wrong was a one off small brown discharge, then a week or 2 later I had horrendous cramping all night but no blood, woke up next day feeling great so assumed all was fine and then few hours later I started bleeding heavily and found out I lost the baby a few weeks earlier but my body hadn't realised.

I am not for one second suggesting that is happening to you I just want people to know that although a brown discharge can indeed be normal it can also be a sign of bad news too. never ignore these things and if you ever have any odd discharge or blood (brown or red) please get checked out rather than ignoring it.

Hope all is well hun x

I agree with going to get checked out but wanted to share my personal experience!

I had brown spotting from weeks 7-8 and then again at week 10. I had an early scan at 8w1d and everything was absolutely fine and they could find no reason for the spotting other than 'some women experience spotting in pregnancy'

it's probably nothing to worry about but I defo would get in touch with midwife/EPU xxx

Thanks guys for all your replies, I have been booked into EPU today at 4! I am pooping myself. I think it's hard not to be resentful to all these women who have babies who don't want them. Trying to stay positive. :(

I know it's easy for me to say but try not to worry too much. Brown discharge is relatively common in healthy pregnancies. I had it on and off for about a week at the same sort of stage as you and all was absolutely fine xx

When I went to toilet this morning there was a touch of red, it's so hard trying not to worry when it's all you think about. I just feel like a complete idiot and I've convinced myself that when I have a scan they aren't going to find anything. Why do our brains over think everything! So annoying! Lol

So I had the scan and they couldn't find anything, now they have taken my blood to check my levels, got to go back and see them Friday. It's all fun and games. :( fingers crossed :(

Hi Ldunners are you sure of your dates? If you are less than 9 weeks they may not be able to see anything yet, the blood tests should help. I had a Missed Miscarriage at 11 weeks on the Monday they could see a sac and baby that only measured 6 weeks with no heartbeat, 3 days later I was scanned again before having a D&C and the sac and baby was gone they said my body had re absorbed it. My only symptoms was brown spotting and dull back ache at the end of Week 10. My intention is not to worry you as my consultant assured me that brown / red spotting does not always result in a loss, each pregnancy is unique. I hope all works out for you x

Hi clementine, that's what the sonographer said that maybe the dates don't add up. I'm hopeing that maybe the dates are wrong and everything is fine. It's just so scary and I just couldn't help crying which is so embarrassing. This is my first ever positive pregnancy test so I've got a bit too excited and already made plans in my head about different things and now knowing that maybe now isn't the time, makes me upset and like I've let my husband down and my family especially when everyone was jumping up and down because they were so happy.

Ldunners I know exactly how you feel, but you have not let anyone down, it is only natural that following the excitement of a bfp you picture your life with a baby, I know myself and my husband had even discussed names. Don't be embarrassed about tears as it is much better to get your feelings out than bottle them in, I found talking helped, try to keep hope until you know more, sometimes having a baby is a bloody tough journey but you will be able to cope, stay strong and if you have any questions just ask, this forum is a great support network x

Sorry the scan wasn't more reassuring hun and I really hope you get some good news on Friday, fingers crossed for you x

Hi everyone, so got a phone call this morning my progesterone is 2.1 which they have said isn't good. I don't have to go back tomorrow I have to do another pregnancy test in 2 weeks. They believe I am having a miscarriage, I have started bleeding heavily and experiencing a lot of period pain. Very frustrating

Sorry to read your update - no words will make it better, stay strong and keep your husband and family close and lean on them if you need to.

So sorry to hear this, you have not let anyone down, I felt like this when I miscarried in 2013 and I made plans in my head and was so gutted when it didn't work out and was so awful having to tell our parents what had happened. Stay strong, take time to grieve and rest. xx

So sorry to hear, you have not let anyone down xx
