I'm only 5 months pregnant (I say only, feels like a lifetime already!!) and when I was walking through Tesco the other week I saw the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Electric Breast Pump for £39.99 - They're normally £79.99!
I seriously thought about it but ended up walking away. Now I REALLY want to breast feed with our little one and would like to express so that my OH could feed him/her to give me a break. However, do you think it's to early to be looking at/buying breast pumps? Tesco have stopped their special offer but i've found the same offer somewhere else recently.
It just seems a bit too good a deal to pass up on, but then what if I physically CAN'T breast feed etc? Don't want to be wasting money! HELP!! lol!X

Only a very small percentage of women physically cant BF. If you REALLY want to and are determined to then I'd say get it. Everyone worries they wont be able to and it's not plain sailing for everyone but a bargain is a bargain if the worst came to it you can bung it on eBay or advertise it here :)

i chatted to my midwife about this otherday i couldnt breastfeed my first as didnt get milk for nearly a week although i want to bottle feed this time i would like to express my own milk for bubs mw was very support of this but im lost as to weather a hand pump or electric better

I've read a lot of reviews that say hand pumps are a real pain. Especially if you intend to express a lot.
Can you imagine the hand ache! lol X

I think it's personal preference. There are pros and cons. I lent a Medela Swing to a friend (electric £90) and she found her Tommee Tippee manual much better which was about £20!

Electric are easier IMO because once you suss it, you can feed from one side and pump the other which means you get more milk out. You cant really do that with manual because you need an extra hand!

I had an electric avent one and it was fab - sounds like a good deal and worth getting I would say xxx

Mervs mum, whats the Medula Swing really like? Is it worth the higher price? I hear the bottles are rubbish tho, can you get other containers that you can express into, or do you just have to use the bags and pour into other make bottles?

I had read reviews and most said were good, but you just don't know! Had a manual avent before when expressing for my first in special care , and it was slow going! Good job he was having tiny amounts at the time!

I love the Swing. I never used the bottles though. There's only a couple with it anyway and I just use them for collecting the milk in. I started with the Medela Mini electric and I found it really good except that it's quite noisy. You wouldnt know though unless you'd heard the others!

You can pick them up on ebay second hand for about £50 if you dont want to pay the full price - both mine were from ebay :)

Thanks lots Mervs mum, nice to hear from someone who actually used it , rather than shop reviews!

I just looked at the close to nature electric breast pump and its got quite bad reviews on mothercare alot of people say the hand one was better then the electric one. Im lost on what one to get aswell as i want an electric one but i dont want to pay loads as ill prob only use it once or twice x

Yeah - I know what you mean :-S
I think I might just go for it. We've saved money in loads of other places so £40 isn't too much of a loss if it really is pants! :-P
X

I got the Tommee Tippee manual pump in ASDA for £10, and I thought it was fab.. Came with a bottle, 2 milk storage cups and a sterilizing box to clean the pump in.. I only ever used manual, so couldn't advise a certain electric pump.. But if you are determined I too would say buy it :) xx
